You've never been able to gaurantee a room without a previous dog, because the ADA allows service dogs to go everywhere (and because some people have always abused that, and brought pets). The only way to be 100% sure there has never, ever been a dog in your room is for you to buy a camper, or build a house, and never allow dogs.

You'll probably say "I shouldn't have to!" but people who need service dogs shouldn't have to be excluded just because you're allergic, either. It's an imperfect system, but ultimately your needs and wants are not more important than anyone else's needs and wants. Disney isn't prioritizing dog owners over their regular guests. They're including dog owners at 4 specific resorts, which still leaves 20 that are exactly the same as they were before.

Disney says dogs staying in its hotels "must be well behaved, leashed in resort public areas and properly vaccinated."

We are just home from a two week stay and we saw several dogs in the parks,we where wondering why as we have never saw them before x we travel from the UK each year so not an option for us but if we stayed on the states we would defiantly taken our wee dog x

Trained service dogs are allowed in the parks. There has been a spike in dog attendance in recent years as people are claiming their animals to be service animals, when in fact they are at the parks fraudulently.

It sucks to have allergies, I get it. I never had them in my life until 4 years ago.. and it’s because of the area I live in.
I sympathize, really.. but someone with allergies can not expect a sterile world to accommodate ‘your’ specific allergy. There are other people sharing this world with ‘you’.
I think a lot of people fail to realize that.

When I was a kid, parents were expected to help their children adapt to the world around them - these days it's the opposite. Our schools flip-flopped on being peanut-free like 4 times.

Can we stop going back through the same tired points over and over again? You don’t need to try to discredit someone else’s point of view to try to prove they are wrong. There is no right or wrong everyone is entitled to their own option on this matter even if it differs with yours. So far I’ve heard things like:
  • How can your phobia be real, there are dogs everywhere you wouldn’t be able to leave your house?
  • How can you complain about allergies when there is mold and pollen and people are allergic to that too or my favorite, your allergies are your problem
  • Service dogs stay in rooms and people sneak dogs into their rooms currently so its the same thing
  • Other hotels allow dogs
My answer to all of that is who cares. If someone doesn’t like this policy they are entitled to that opinion for no other reason than they just don’t want to have a chance that a room they get was frequented by dogs in the near past. People don’t need to justify their reasons for not liking it and if you don’t like it there are plenty of other resorts to choose from (as long as they don’t expand the program).

On the other side there are people poking fun at the “pet parent” people. If someone wants to treat a dog like a child, who cares? It’s not hurting anyone. Dogs can be a valuable member of the family too. I personally would have no desire to bring a dog to WDW with me, but if others want to do it that’s their choice. If people want to bring their dog and keep it in the room to save a few bucks on boarding them who cares? It’s their choice. For the dog owners, you have to realize that your dog may be special to you but is just a dog to everyone else and it’s a valid opinion to not want a room that your dog was in previously no matter how clean your dog is and how many other hotels allow dogs.

At the end of the day Disney has decided to roll out this pilot program to see how it works. I am not opposed to the theoretical idea of allowing dogs at some WDW resorts but I do think this plan seems a bit disorganized and rushed. There are a few logistical parts that seem flawed too but maybe with the roll out they will turn out to not be issues or the system will be tweaked to work better. I personally think it would be a more constructive conversation if people didn’t get bogged down with insulting each other, but it’s a free country...so carry on:)

I really think this would solve most of the issue with this new policy. This combined with having more defined dog areas for each resort. From the map it seems like the dog areas are spread across the resort. I think logistically it would make more sense to put all of the dog rooms together and invest some of these $50/$75 fees being collected into making the area near the dog section more dog friendly. Instead of having 3 or 4 relief areas per resort have 1 large one that could even have some dog “attractions” like a few fire hydrants or a fenced in dog run area like some dog parks have or maybe a statue of Goofy...we know they all worship him as their hero:). Maybe even an indoor dog lounge for a rainy day.

This would make the whole experience better for the dogs and their owners and also make the non-dog people happy. It’s a win/win scenario.

It wouldn't be a problem, as she is a very trained and well behaved little dear. She's also very calm around little ones, and enjoys wearing (formal) hats if they are in good taste. She's half golden retriever and half beagle. We call her a bold retreagle. And we certainly wouldn't take her around pools during the busier daytime hours, as an uptick in noise could possibly spark another one of her episodes (which we always clean up after). It's the careless, irresponsible owners whom I worry about.

The dog in that picture could probably eat half a beagle for an afternoon snack. Then you are just left with half a golden retriever....which is a bigger mess;)
