4 points going to waste

We have 108 points that need to be used by 7/31/2013. We will be staying at Kidani Village savannah view from 5/12- 5/19 at a cost of 104 points, which leaves us four points. Is there anywhere we can give them away to someone who may be just a couple of points short on a trip they would like to take? Boardwalk with a boardwalk view at the same time is exactly 108 points but my family wants to stay at Animal Kingdom.

I think his point is that he cannot bank them, and he is looking for somone to transfer them to who can use them.

I plan on going to F&W next year (2013) in November, but this is past his expiration date. If those plans fall through, and I don't go, then I will be in the same boat, but with 1 point that I will need to get rid of.

There should be a place or account that points like these can be donated to charity like Make a Wish Foundation.How many sick kids could enjoy these wasted points that get thrown away. What a win for all this would be!

IF you plan of going at least every other year

IF your contract is sized correctly

IF your travel plans don't change

I know in my case I used all but 1 point this use year (ends Feb 2013) so I banked it into next year (ending Feb 2014) so I have to use it by Feb 2014 or I will loose it. We PLAN on going for a weekend for Food and Wine in November of 2013 and then as a family vacation in the summer of 2014. If something were to happen, and we did not go in November of 2013, that 1 banked point would end up being lost.

The above is the sort of planning you HAVE to be able to do if you own DVC. You have to look at your points, your use years, and plan accordingly. Now I don't plan on loosing that 1 point, but we do have a limited window when we can go to F&W in November, and if something happens, then that one point gets lost.

If you don't plan and use your DVC "correctly" then you will be loosing points all over the place.

Banking and borrowing. You know that your vacation is going to be within a certain target point amount. Point values don't change THAT much (in fact they CANNOT change that much, there are certain limits to how much rebalancing can be done, something a lot of people seem to overlook). Point charts for 2012 and 2013 are out now, and 2014 will be out shortly (in a few months).

Very rarely do your points work out even - such as I have 150 and my room is 150. It is either 146 or 158 or something like that. That is why you can bank and borrow. I know I have to take a vacation of at least 1 point by Feb 2013 or I loose that point. I PLAN on taking one in the 30 - 40 point range.

This happened to us because my wife and I are now expecting a baby this year ! We had to cancel a trip and bank the points. But we have 8 banked points from the year before and had to give them up...
