We actually discussed this subject during a BTM tour. Gators on property are generally caught, tagged, and released somewhere way off property. A tagged gator that returns could be humanely disposed of. As previously stated, a gator that has lost it's fear of humans is a real danger, WDW doesn't want any headlines.

Whether tagged or not, I can tell you they aren't released "way off property." Back in the olden days (for me at least- probably circa 1990), I took a "Disney's Natural Inhabitants" (or something like that) tour. It was probably about a half day seminar that started out by showing you a map and orienting you to the Disney property both seen and unseen. Then, they loaded groups of people into passenger vans (maybe two or three vans on our tour) and took us to various "natural" behind the scenes areas on property.
As part of the tour, we travelled into an area that was comprised of a small canal system. There were more alligators in those canals than I had ever seen total in my life before. We exited the vans at one point so that we could take some good pictures.
The theme of the tour was that Disney is doing it's part in preserving the natural habitat of the many animals that inhabit central Florida. I just hope, with so much developement that they are still adhering to this practice.

I can just see it now...one of those people who love suing Disney coming to MK and sticking their hand infront of the gator to get it chewed off...then they'll run to their lawyer and sue Disney   . I hope that in "preserving" the habitats of gators they don't risk people's lives (or even worst risk the biggest PR debacle sense Pres. Clinton and Monica:lol: :animwink: ).

DON'T FEED THE GATORS PLEASE...THOSE ARE NOT HUNGRY CMs DRESSED IN A GATOR SUIT.:p :lookaroun

Hello, I'm a watercraft CM (the funny guy that drive the boats form MK to the MK Resorts) and I can tell you that I see gators in the lake every day, specially during the morning before the park open. You can also see them in Discovery Island and on the north shore of Bay Lake, this is their favorite beach to hangout since nobody goes there. There use to be one in the canal that separates MK parking lot (CM section - Chip and Dale) and the Poly, he used to live under the bridge that goes across the canal, it was getting bigger everyday so they removed him a couple of weeks ago, we had him named and everything, he was the Transportation mascot. Anyway while they are not a treat, is against the law to feed them, so for your own safety, please dont trow turkey legs and popcorn to them. If you see one in the beach of one of the hotel you look at him, enjoy it, leave him alone, dont feed him and tell a CM about it. MAGICAL DAY EVERYONE.

Why would yu waste yur money adn give yur turkey legs to an allgator. If yur gonna waste it ,give it to someone gratefule like me. :slurp: :slurp:

It's Florida, there are bound to be gators here and there around any water. With all of the Disney waterways, I am sure that there are many that have not been seen.

A few years ago (1996) I was at Blizzard Beach in the queue for Teamboat Springs, and there was a big rat under one of the scenic rocks. That was a little intimating, being in barefeet with a big rat a few feet away. The CM was telling everyone to leave Mickey alone, and that someone was on the way to deal with him.

Please remember that although the gators look sluggish and lazy, they can DEFINITELY outrun a human, if they want. Please keep your distance!!! Also, they won't bite and run; they will drag you out under the water and start a death roll...resulting in either a life threatening amputation, drowning, or fatal wounds. (either due to severity or infection)

I'd rather take my chances with a shark. (And yes, I still swim in the river...but the gator is getting even larger, so I might skip it this year. ;) )

My family also saw the alligator your speaking about off of Tom Sawyers Island. My sister & brother in-law noticed as they came off the ferry boat. I thought they were pulling my leg. Not that it was impossible considering we were in the gator state. Still, it was my son's first time at MK and I was scared to let him go on TS Island to go through caves. I didn't know if the alligator could roam the island. Does anyone know? We are going back in August and would like my son to see TS Island, but still a little leery.
