:animwink: Hi guys. My name is Gustavo. I am begining to make some 3D max models of WDW atractions. Actually I am just beging the WDW rail station (the one in the front of the park), but I don't have enough pictures of it to beging modeling. Would anyone have a picture of it to help me? Well...thanks anyway.

I'm doing a detailed drawing of the train station too. (It's 2d but I'm kinda exploding it so you can see all the different parts) I got the blueprint of the front off ebay, (if you're interested in buying one I can direct you towards sources) there are a ton of photos at disneyfans.com (which doesn't seem to be working today otherwise I'd insert a link) and I was down there last week taking pictures of odd areas not covered by the first two sources

So do you want me to post them here, email them to you. I also have a yahoo club for disney modelers (most of the members are making virtual models) feel free to join

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/disneyworldmodelersclub/

I could create an album over there.

Look forward to hearing from you

Thank u!

Hey guys, thank u very much for replying this message. Yes! I want all possible help or tip u can get me. I've allways wanted to model Magic Kindon's ride on 3D, but I was allways busy with my architecture classes in university (here in Brasil). But now I found a little time to start doing it.
But u know...living down here it is kinda dificult to go to Magic Kingdon just to take a picture of something to model... I can only do it with pictures I have from old trips, and the ones I find on the net.
Thanks agian
Gustavo

Here's the front elevation that I've done so far (I suppose I should have included a plan too, I'll do it soon). I know it's a bit basic but it has dimensions so it will be very helpful. As I said I'm doing a drawing, but I'm also doing a ton of other drawings too so it's not going anywhere quickly. The site http://disneyfans.com/wdw/index.htm is back up, I'd include a link directly to the folder that has the station photos but you have to go throught the index (the webmaster wants to keep track of the number of visitors so you have to go through the index to enter a password). If you want a copy of the actual blueprint www.partsace has them or you could go to ebay and type in disney, blueprints in the search bar. Blueprintplace@aol.com has a TON of park plans but the auctions just ended, (I'm getting rocknrollercoaster, cinderellas castle and small world) you could look through the completed auctions list, email him or you could wait till his next round of auctions. Either way it will be $20. By the way I'm an architect too. I'm doing blueprints of all the parks and some of the hotels. unfortunately only 2D, I know a bit of 3D but not much.

Later

Ed

I have a question... We all know which program to use for 3D animation but is Maya still the program of choice when just doing scene renders? I've not done anything with it but have thought about ordering the free edition (since downloading it seems nearly impossible due to traffic on their servers)... With the incredible slash in prices on it recently, I'm thinking that a license for one of the professional versions wouldn't be totally out of the question in the future... Also, I know that the free one saves in a funky format... Can the professional versions open that format or is it pretty much just for the learning edition? On a side note, I'm currently using 3ds max 4. Would I just be better off sticking with what I've got?

Hmmm...welllllllll...

Ok..heres the deal...For STILLS...I would say go to either XSI, Lightwave, or stick with MAX...mainly because Mayas render engine is..well..sub-par. Unless you know how to tweak it..its pretty weak. XSI has a free version they mail to you that comes with a CD full of tutorials...and it has one of the best render engines in the world. The only downside to XSI is the full version isnt really that cheap....

This is where Lightwave steps in. Attrative price, very nice render engine, lots of online help and tutorials....problem being that lightwave is VERY different to any new user. It has a pretty unique way of handling objects and scenes that would seem intimidating to a new user. HOWWWWWWWWWEVER..there is a very thick (and quite pretty) "Inside Lightwave 7" book out there that will get you into the program very nicely.

MAX...which would be my LAST choice (until version 5 goes gold) because it suffers from buggy programming and an even worse render engine than maya (for now..as i said..version 5 will fix that). Its a bit slow and unreliable..and its interface is very difficult to deal with at times. The only good things about max is that it has TONS of tutorials out there..lots of plugins..and there are about 9 3rd party render engines out there (none of which are free of course)....

So my final verdict? Get yourself a copy of the XSI|Experience (free version available on www.softimage.com )...play around with it..if you feel comfy with it...go with it... Lightwave is releasing a free version soon...so until then you may have to just play it by ear and decide if you want to invest the $$$ to get it without even knowing it....If you know MAX really well..stick with it...thats the reason i still use Maya...i know it like the back of my hand and can tweak it to make it better..

...and to answer your file format question...they all use their own "demo version" file format...and not one company was smart enough to make the demo format readable in the FULL version (oops)..however..XSI's demo can READ the full version format..but obviously cant write it.

How do I atach a Cad drawing here?

:veryconfu I've finished a part of the front faced of MK Railroad Staation and I would like to show u guys, so u can tell me if there is anything wrong...but I am not quite sure to atach an Cad Drawing here. Is it possible? Meanwhile...I can only find pictures of the facade with the train stoped in front of it. Does anyone hae a picture of the station without the train so I can draw the rest of it?

If you are using MAX..just render out a still frame and upload the pic...or..you can even take a screen shot by pressing "Print screen" on your keyboard...pasting into photoshop..and then savng the image...

Thanks Now Inc. Any help will be great! Actually I don't have much experience in modeling, so I guess it will take some time for this Railroad station to get done. As soon as I finish it I will post it here. By the way? Don't u have any picture of it so I can add some more details to the 3D model?

Your rendering inspired me to go home last night and work a bit more on my drawing. I hope you like it.

What sections of the station are you looking for?

Ed

Great work Ed!

Hey Ed, your drawing is great. It really gives the idea of the station facades. Great map too. Where did u find it? Have u done that? If so, man, congratulations! What I am looking for is some pictures or some drawing of all facades. I just havee pictures of the front facade, and all of them have the train in the station, so I can see much more than I show in my drawing. Hope u can help me. Thanks anyway Ed. Once again, great job! Hope u continue doing it!
