30% off rooms- does this mean occupancy is down?

The "Awaken Summer" promotion seems more aggressive than I remember in recent years.

Does this mean hotel occupancy is down?

@lentesta, is park attendance starting to taper off from the surge that began last summer? (Looking at your data, measured crowds seem as expected.)

It couldn't be backlash from price increases or attraction cuts, could it?

My gut reaction is that demand for Universal has decreased the value of staying on WDW property.

30% off deluxes and villas is common. I don't think hotel occupancy is down across property. I haven't crunched the numbers in about a month, but the WDW hotel occupancy numbers I've seen look pretty healthy. DVC, in particular, was about 95% every day I had stats.

it's not 30% off all resorts... only deluxe and deluxe villa rooms... discount goes down from there

not uncommon really and with the ridiculous amount it costs to stay at some of the deluxe resorts, 30% still doesn't do much

And the promotion usually excludes a few of the prime deluxe resorts and availability of the promotion at the resorts they do offer is often extremely limited.

It's more of a hook promotion than anything else. They just want to get you thinking about planning a trip.

Nope, doesn't seem more aggressive than normal to me. We stay at Deluxe resorts when the discount hits 30% and we have the money. I'm pretty sure that was the discount on our last 3 maybe 4 trips.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Nope up to 30% is normal the last few years for Deluxe being the highest 30% then on down for other catagories for several years now. Back in 2008-2012 before we joined DVC it was as much as 40% (and 45% as an AP) sometimes. So no this is not aggresive and has been the standard for a quite a while now. :)

You should have posted this in the $15 fee thread - it would get a much more agreeable reception! :)

Even with the 30% discount, it's still ridiculous! We've always stayed on-property in the past but after having taken a break of visiting WDW (our last visit was 2010), we were literally gobsmacked at how much it was to stay on-property!

Never have we gotten a pin code :( Do they even offer them anymore?

The number of rooms they actually discount is pretty small. Just a sales tactic to get people to book.
So aside from package deals there are people paying rack rate during the discount periods? I have never and would never do so. Once I did have to switch hotels to get a discount when I wanted to visit.

No idea. Just that the number of discounted rooms is always small

Worth emphasizing..... the key here is to check your dates, and preferred places to stay. VERY often, the WDW search Engine will show "no availability". It's enlightening to search an "offer" with "ALL HOTELS" checked - VERY often, the only "available" hotels are the usual suspects.... about 4 locations.
