3/18 Fantasmic Cancelled

I went to MGM tonight to catch the 7:30 performance of Fantasmic. Unfortunately they had signs all over the place saying that due to unforeseen circumstances the 7:30 and 9:00 performances of Fantasmic were cancelled. They had the signs everywhere inside and outside the park including at the parking plaza. All of the Fantasmic CM's were out telling guests in the park and getting off the busses, boats, and trams. They added an additional performance of Indy and BATB to compensate. I choose to see Indy as I have never seen it at night (it is much better at night by the way). If any one knows what the problem was I would love to know.

Would be interesting to hear what happened this time, but it wouldn't be the first time. Normally they are computer or electrical problems. Sometimes weather (although that's not a problem tonight)...

Yeah the weather was perfect tonight. Every other time I have seen Fantasmic cancelled it has been at the last minute. In other words they were already loading the theater. This time though they were cancelled long before they opened the theater. Maybe its not that out of the ordinary it just seemed strange to me.

Thanks for the update...I wonder what happend?!?! I heard that they recently changed some aspects in the show so it was not as scary.

Well, the good thing is, they did something to compensate for it, instead of just leaving those guests who just came with nothing to do. Smart thinking. :)

I heard from a source that the structural integrity of the moutain was the unforseen circumstance. Since I heard that not once, not twice, but thrice....all of which pretty reliable, one of which on the actual cast of the show, I'm gonna go with that.

Sooooo...the mountain, all of a sudden, is ready to collapse? Seems like an overreaction to some overheard comments that were probably rumors to begin with.....like the "telephone" game.

I dunno - "structural integrity" of the mountain seems fishy.

Apparently you've never seen the build quality of some of the other buildings that were built around the studios.

Odd... very odd...
my guess would be a technical problem that would have to wait for an Imagineer to assess and order modifications of the problem; but of course, that's just my hypothesis.

Well if that was the case I would imagine tonights shows would be cancelled also. But I think I have to agree with the telephone game theory.

Some of the rockwork from the mountain fell into the moat. Both shows last night were cancelled, but they are expecting to run tonight as normal.

Wow. I would love to be able to see the show tonight but I have to leave town for the day. Any idea where exactly this rock work came from.

The recent Fantasmic performances seem sloppy with their timing... didn't know that perhaps they were running in fear of a mountain slide! :lookaroun

From what I was told, some mountain fragments were found in the moat, so they immediately drained it. They then optioned not to refill it until they discovered the source of the problem. Since they could not go on with the show without the moat, they quickly called for cancellation, and basically gave themeselves until the next morning to get eveything settled and begin refilling the moat.
