Yeah, the 7,796 is the total for Local 50. They are planning to lay off around 2,800 of those. That would be about 10% of the total layoffs.

Ahhhh ok, that makes a bit more sense than how I originally interpreted it. Also found the California WARN number for non-union, which was lower than I expected at 2,765.

Yes, you can travel, but if you are from a state that says that if you go to a place, like Florida, when you return you will be quarantined for 14 days. That puts a damper on any trip.
Slightly bigger than that...

Makes it impossible for anyone who has school In person or interacts with actual humans in their jobs.

Big deal...just no police sirens involved.

People are too lazy today to boycott. #cancel, maybe. But even that's fleeting.
Everyone has been freaking "boycotting" for that past six months. Not necessarily willingly, but the results are the same. People have to realize that, especially for a place like WDW, that they are short millions of dollars every single day that they were closed or even only partially open. You want the parks to continue, but at the same time you feel that Disney should just continue to pay the help with no return of income. No matter how rich the company is, there is a limit. Fixed costs don't go away, however income did, in huge amounts.

To recap/put things into a perspective from things I've heard, the following departments were impacted drastically at WDW today:

- Photopass
- Guest Relations
- DVC reps
- Mid-level management, the Guest Experience Managers (aka front-line's bosses)
- Backstage data operations

Lastly, according to peeps, the Minnie Vans are no more, as in the entire cast who wasn't management was laid off.
Premium services big cuts

Actually what’s wrong with Disney? Open up club 33 and expand it out into the blue bayou and cafe Orleans. Make the mint Julip bar an actual bar. Bring in the jazz band that usually plays out there and charge whatever price you want. They’d be making a killing right now!

No, we're not. Hospitality isn't going to do well, and that's putting it lightly. But that said, there are still options out there for folks getting notice now from Disney and there's nothing wrong with a little positivity.

But you're right, tourism isn't returning til Florida takes covid seriously and people feel comfortable travelling here/ can come without quarantine upon return home. And uh, good luck with that.

I know people like to make fun of Florida for being... Florida... but there haven’t been any outbreaks associated with Florida’s theme parks. We’ve set a precedent that the theme parks can be operated safely for those who want to go.

You can take COVID seriously and still have businesses be open. Most states are doing that. California is dragging its feet, and you can say it’s science but it’s also political just like everything else these days.

In the end, I’m not sure how much choice we have. The government isn’t going to take care of us. Not with the political climate in the US. For better or worse, this isn’t Scandinavia. Even during a pandemic, we’re forced to sink or swim based on our ability to generate income. It’s a harsh reality, but the world is a harsh place. Less harsh for some, more harsh for others.

The sad truth is had DLR been allowed to open, and opened with the proven, known good procedures that are right now in use by WDW in FL and Knotts RIGHT NOW in CA, there would have been NO SPIKE. It’s sad.....
