Is that also a mock up model for the ride systems in the back of the room? If so, how many people does this attraction hold at a time? But maybe it is something else?

No none of the ride system is in that image.
The attraction holds 4 guests per pod, 10 (we think, not 100% confirmed) pods per ride bay, and 4 ride bays. So at any one time you have 4x10x4=160 guests on the attraction, plus those in line, post show and pre show.

So what is this then. I guess it can't be the pods since it appears to have 6 seats (or is it 4?), but if it's just a Mission Control Room or something it seems odd that it is built within that pivotal structure.

Maybe it represents a Satellite in space??

Hope you don't mind if I post a zoom in view for reference.

Thats a very impressive set-up, sort of like Test Track (but better) - I only hope the queues are as big as the the one in the picture !!!!

Remember it's an artist impression. These things are done way in advance, and are to give an idea of how things may look. They arent meant to show specifics, so dont read too much into it. :)

But I can tell you 100% it isnt a model of the pod interior. ;)

It might end up to be just a picture on the wall.

I was going to let it go Steve ;) but to just rebuttal this comment... the rendition shows it as a 3 dimensional thing that is within the building and in front of the Queue bars. It is not up against a wall. Or did I totally miss your sarcasm? :lookaroun :)

It could just be a prop, such as when you walk past all the robots in the star tours pre-show.

I agree.

It brings back to memory how I felt waiting for Magic Kingdom and then Epcot to open years ago. And my first walk through the queue at Space Mountain.

Can't wait!!!!

How many people here think that prior to your "mission", you'll be sent into a "Briefing Room" where actors on tv/movie screens will talk to you about what you are doing, where you are going, and add in a little corny humor for good measure?!  :D :)

They had that rendition on the Travel Channel show too...:)

That screen looks like a...well...screen. There will, most likely, be a preshow room, and I would imagine those screens in the queue will just show movies about space travel, like Test Track.
