I've been helping my mother go through old photos, and realized that my upcoming December trip to WDW is 21 years from the date of my first trip. (Which I took while my parents were down visiting me from RI in my new Florida home.)

I've seen a lot of changes since then, both at WDW and personal.

Only 2 parks, and EPCOT was brand new. Resorts? Contemporary, Polynesian, Disney Inn, Tree House Villas, and Fort Wilderness. We stayed offsite, as it was still a short, relatively uncrowded drive.

Wine and beer could ONLY be purchased in the sit down restaurants (or attached bars) at EPCOT. Not at counter service or kiosks. I remember when we first visited Universal, how surprised we were by the availability of beer!

The food and beverage choices were much more limited. I was pregnant on my second trip (4 months later) and was limited to milk and water. My vegetarian SIL had to pack her own lunch, as there were no options except at full service restaurants, and only by special request to the chef.

There was still bus service around the world showcase, which alternated with the boats. I don't recall any fireworks at EPCOT on my earliest trips. I think Illuminations started a couple of years later.

EPCOT was open from 9AM to 10PM, and ALL areas were open.

The MK was open until 7PM during the week in Dec; later on the weekends. It was open until midnight every night in the summer season.

They still had the heavy duty steel and vinyl strollers with the extended footrest and awning. It was sturdy enough to place light packages on top. You think strollers are dangerous NOW? These guys were lethal!

You could still purchase a 2 day pass, and each day was stamped as you used it. APs required a trip to GS for a photo and lamination. I still have some old ones.

CBR was originally built as a value resort. It was the AS and Pop Century of it's day.

I've gone on long enough. I'll let some of the other oldtimers (guests for 15 years or longer) chime in now.

resturants and food carts open til park closing.

MK open til 1am on some summer nights.

I remember my first trip...1978. It was the last "family" vacation I got to go on. We drove from NY and stayed at a Days Inn in Altomonte Springs. The view from the ferry was breathtaking! It was only the Magic Kingdom and I still have the paper ticket books they used to give, (with all the "good" rides used up) I found them after my mom passed away...she saved everything. I can't find any pics though, which I don't understand cause my dad always took tons of them. :(

We used those lousy steel and vinyl strollers in 1992 when we took Lil'mermaid on her first trip...still have a scar on my ankle where I got "accidentally" run over because I got the last Minnie Mouse sweatshirt in EPCOT (it was only 27 degrees out and windy as hell).

And I still love PotC! :sohappy:

The things I remember most from my first trips (which were in the very early 80's) were:

-The Kodak display when you got out of Imagination.
-The live entertainment at Cosmic Ray's (was it even called that then?).
-The Mickey bars that were just ice cream, only his eyes and ears were chocolate.
-The Mickey shaped latex balloons.
-The other song on CoP. "Now is the time, Now is the best time..."

Had forgotten about being open so late. And Discovery Island...100 degrees, 100% humidity...the Disney Death March as we fondly called it. Try carrying a 4 yr. old on your shoulders thru this (and she is afraid of birds).

Remember when there were rows of benches instead of the 'cattle herding' way they are now?

Remember when MGM had a star a day appear?
When there was a Spain and Africa coming soon sign in the back of Epcot?
If You Had Wings? (It was a freebie in the ticket book days!)

We still have our paper tickets (from the mid-80's) that were hole-punched at the admission gates.

Remember the motorcycle traffic cop hiding behind a billboard on "World of Motion"?

Remember seeing the Dreamfinder outside "Journey Into Imagination"? - and the Kodak pre-show before "Captain EO" that made me cry every single time?

Remember smelling loranges at "Horizons"?

(*sigh*)
