It's also visible on Bing Maps Bird's Eye view Between the Land Green Houses and Soarin with a Jungle Cruise Boat that was also at the Pin Event.

I had such high hopes there for a second.... :arghh:
That would have to be the absolute, bordering on insanity, level of hoping, I would think. My first thought would have been, cardboard cutout. There is less then zero chance that anyone will ever see a sub ride in WDW again.;)

From Screamscape:

"I’m not sure what this is about, but a reader spotted what looked to be the top shell frame for a 20k Leagues submarine on the back of a truck pulling into the parking lot of the Grand Floridian over the weekend. Any ideas what this is all about?"

Screamscape had an update this morning confirming everything @Cmdr_Crimson stated:

(7/9/14)
I’ve got some more information about the mystery appearance of the 20k Leagues submarine shell pieces spotted going into the Grand Floridian on the back of a truck. It turns out it was used as a massive centerpiece for a display in one of the resort’s ballrooms for a Cast Member only celebration event that had a bit of a Steam Punk theme. Check out the two pictures sent in to Screamscape from the party held on July 8th.
As for the origin of the sub itself, it seems this is a prop piece kept on property and used for exactly this purpose, for special events and celebrations, convention groups, etc in the parks and resorts. For years I’ve heard of such a thing that used to be kept in storage backstage at Epcot behind Soarin’, but has since disappeared to a new storage location. I’m not sure, but I do wonder if this was the leftover Nautilus that was once on display at the Studios park in the water tank effects area, before it was removed for the Pearl Harbor revamp.

When I first saw Atlantis, it was not to long after 20K had closed. At least the lagoon was still intact at the time. My first thought was man this would make a good way to reactivate the sub ride. Obviosly, that didn't happen. They never seem to listen to my thoughts.

You were not the only one thinking about doing a 'Atlantis' overlay to the existing Sub ride.
Some high ranking and famous Imagineers were also thinking along those lines in the days of yore.

At one point, it WAS supposed to happen out at Disneyland to refresh their original Submarine Voyage.
Once the film flopped, plans were shelved.

Personally i always felt it would have been a excellent themed overlay, regardless of how 'poorly' the Studio felt the film did.
The overall theme was perfect...the sense of setting out on a adventurous quest, scenic elements...shoot, even right down to a sea creature that attacks the subs!
It would have been awesome...and fit Tomorrowland a lot better at DL as well.

Seemed a no-brainer...but unfortunately the higher ups were more interested in pushing the Pixar franchise and a certain cartoon fish....

Yea, but they had to wait a while for the fish to show up. I agree, even though at this point, I don't remember the entire plot of the movie, I do remember sitting there and really thinking this would make a great sub ride, even better then 20K. It may have been a success in the box office, but, most of us "boomers" never even saw that movie, much less claimed to like it. That didn't stop us from loving the sub ride.

It still amuses me, to an extent, how fast the reaction was to deciding that Nemo would be the focus of the DL sub ride. They filled in the WDW lagoon so fast that it was just a blur. Whatever the decision, they didn't want anyone to be able to insist that the WDW sub ride be redone. Sneaky little twerps. Before we even knew what was happening, the lagoon was a forest.

Aren't there others hanging out in the 'graveyard' behind Hollywood Studios or somewhere like that?
If you're talking about subs, no there are one or two being used as a base for a coral reef in the Caribbean and the rest are buried in a deep hole somewhere on Disney property after being stripped of whatever stuff they felt would be sold as souvenirs. The one that is being used for the "special occasions" is just a "smaller" copy of the originals. The originals are much, much larger then that one.
