Uhmm I was amazed at how there wassen't a thread about the 20k lagoon yet, with steve having put a rumor about the LIttle mermaid lagoon from Disneyseas could go to the 20k lagoon?

I know some people know a little something but don't want to tell anything yet... But I just wanted to know... Is this rumor in the right track??

If I remember my Disney lore correctly, the Mermaid Lagoon area of Tokyo DisneySea was originaly imagineered for the Magic Kingdom (to be built across the tracks like Space Mountain). I know that imagineering will reuse ideas again and again until they actually fit somewhere, its just interesting that one idea might be coming "home".

I wonder if they will pull out Mickey's Birthdayland/Mickey's Starland/Mickey's Toontown Fair to put this in. I've always thought this area really should be at the Studios park. Also, if they pick up a direct copy of the Tokyo attraction, it has a kiddie coaster themed to Flounder.

Of course, I'm also probably forgetting how much real estate the lagoon takes up.

You rang?

Yep, this is the rumor I've heard for about six weeks now. I have no idea how solid it is.

The way I hear it, the Mermaid Lagoon would go where the 20K show building is now, plus maybe a little more.
Mickey's Toontown Fair is safe.

I have no idea how they are gonna get guests to it, though.
A bridge across the lagoon?

Yeah... I would imagine they would stuff her in the show building then :)

I saw aerial photo's of the 20k show building for the first time a couple of days ago. I had NO clue it was that big. I was also wondering about getting people over there and I figure they'll use the lagoon itself as a themed entry point with a bridge across to Mermaid Lagoon.

Lee, what do you mean by ML going where the 20k show building is and maybe a little more? Do you mean a little more behind the building or will ML even be inside the current show building? One more question, how tall is the 20k building? One story, two, taller?

As for getting a direct copy, I don't think we will. ML in Tokyo has a teacups clone, and it also has two rides, the Flounder Coaster and Scuttle's Scooters(I think), outdoors while the rest of the attractions are indoors. It remains to be seen if there is enough room at MK for the whole thing. Being Daddy to a 5 year old, I'd like to see this happen, but I don't want to see a cheapo version at WDW. Hopefully, they'll do it right.

Cheers

The only reason we might ever get this is because of OLC. With everything already sculpted and molded and experiencial knowledge imagine how much money that shaves off the budget.

I mean that there is some available land surrounding the show building that could be used. Not that they will use the same building. It's full of water, and would need to be drained and the ride troughs filled in.
As for how tall the building is, my estimate is that from ground level backstage the building is about 25 feet tall. It is not tall enough for the Mermaid Lagoon to go into it. A new building will be needed, or at least raising the roof of the old one.

I am unfamiliar with the Mermaid Lagoon, what type of attraction or attractions will this be? Is it another underwater dark ride type thing like 20,000 Leagues or something totally different?

I think it's awesome they are finally doing something with that waste of space, I am stoked it'll be themed around one of there classic movies too, ALLEGEDLY. It is a nice step in the right direction.

Whatever Disney decides to do with the 20K Lagoon, don't worry about the existing structures. They'll just pull them down. Just look at what they did with Horizons.

If they don't build all of the rides (teacups, kiddie coaster) I hope they will replace them with a small dark ride. It would be really great for them to finally build a LM dark ride. (although I would highly doubt it)

Okay, I'm trying to remember the Travel Channel special on TDS that they ran last year. Isn't Mermaid Lagoon an actual themed land in that park? I recall seeing the coaster--which MK already has in Goofy's Barnstormer. I remember a Flounder spoke ride which I think is a Dumbo clone--MK doesn't need that either. There was a spinning seashell ride--MK already has Teacups nearby. Many of the rides seemed pretty standard issue kiddie rides, most of which MK already has.

I remember some--like the coaster--being outdoors while several of these kiddie rides were inside a castle or giant seashell or something like that.

But...I totally recall two things in TDS Mermaid Lagoon that aren't being discussed here. One was a "Dark Ride" Little Mermaid ride--something no U.S. Disney park currently has. The other was a rather spectacular elaborate-looking show--lots of trapeze and bungee performers to make the show be "under the sea." Looked really cool.

Could MK be getting the dark ride and the show within this area rather than more teacups, dumbos and kiddie coasters?

Hmmmm...very intriguing. Hope they build it within the next few years so my girls (currently 9 and 5) can truly enjoy it.

My other question now is, if they do this to the 20K lagoon at MK, will they do the same at DL. Their lagoon is officially in Tomorrowland, but it's adjacent to a corner of Fantasyland. Thus the lagoon at DL could be annexed so-to-speak and added into FL or turned into it's own separate area. Their only problem is that the Autopia Grand Prix (i.e.--CARS) are directly over the show building, so there's no way they re-do the building without shutting down another ride--which was just shut down and re-done a few years ago.

I regret to inform you that you must have recalled incorrectly. TDS's Mermaid Lagoon does indeed have a show but it does not have a little mermaid dark ride like you said. As for the other rides, they are repeats of our existing rides in MK except for Jumpin' Jellyfish. If this does get built, I hope they use the space given up by the repeating rides to put in something incredible. We shall see.

Hear, Hear! We do not need another teacups fifty yard from the original and lord knows we don't need a 4th Dumbo type ride in the Magic Kingdom (and 5th in Walt Disney World). I would love to see a Mermaid dark ride as those seem to be the rides that are being passed by as new attractions.

There is a Jumpin' Jellyfish ride at DCA in CA. Isn't isn't that great if a ride. I think they should finally build a dark ride for Little Mermaid.

Keep in mind that this is a very uncertain rumor at this point.
No one has any real information about the plans that may or may not exist for this attraction.
Please don't assume that just because it's being speculated about here, it is going to happen.
This rumor may die a painful death at any moment, you never know.

All of the above also goes for the Flik's rumor for AK.

Well here's hoping it dies a quick death. That money should be spent elsewhere. If they want to duplicate kiddie rides, do it somewhere else.

While I agree that I hope this rumour dies quickly, out of all of that TDS "lands" they could replicate at WDW I think this is the one I'd like to see the least, I think that it's okay for them to add some more rides geared for the younger set into Fantasyland. Isn't that what Fantasyland is all about?
