Wow, both Universal Orlando parks over took all of the WDW parks except MK.

Big question is will it remain that was in next year's ranking, especially with Covid restrictions gone. I doubt it, especially due to Disney's attendance caps - but if MK loses out on being the biggest park by attendance in the world some day, that'll be perhaps a day when things change. I hope. I've been doing a lot of hoping lately.

What would realistically happen if 2022 saw a repeat of Universal's gates topping Disney's again?

Discount tickets for locals? More promos for Disney+ subscribers?

I doubt anything substantial would happen. Disney is reactionary when it comes to not hitting quarterly targets (usually cuts and price hikes), but they are glacial at responding to major market shifts.

When you look at the domestic numbers I'm always amazed at how high Knotts is. For a park that doesn't get talked about much it does very well.

So, does anyone know if this is accurate? The numbers Disney has been reporting suggest they are going gangbusters, but these figures suggest a major realignment in the Orlando theme park market in which Universal is seriously competing with Disney for #1.

These are estimates for 2021, it's possible this year was much better for Disney.

Universal has also recently said they are taking market share from Disney, so clearly both are trying to hype their pandemic recovery.

This is all from 2021 and in some ways this report feels like the biggest time capsule TEA has ever released. We're in a very different environment in Fall 2022 than Spring 2021.

I think that's why TEA has maintained the 2019 rankings. It's more than Universal ran their parks mostly unrestricted in 2021 and recovered 90% of their attendance. Disney and other parks less so. Anywhere outside of Florida and China especially.

Not that I find the TEA report uninteresting, I'm just surprised it wasn't published earlier in the year. From what I can quickly gather it used to be published in the Spring pre-pandemic and even the 2020 report occurred in summer 2021.
