Can Sony afford SE? We know Microsoft has the funds to do something like that.
I don't think they do. I know their profit is down and they're predicting a tough year. With movies not releasing, I know that hurts. Playstation has been their strongest asset for a while now. But I just don't see them being able to make a play for square. Not for what it would be worth.

My fear is Microsoft becomes another EA and takes what they want and packs away the rest.
I'm not as worried about that. At least not anytime soon. They have too much catching up to do to start ticking off fans.
Maybe Sony could buy Konami to whip them back into shape.
If Microsoft doesn't buy sega, konami would be a good 2nd choice. I don't know what that studio is thinking. Of course I would approve of anyone buying Konami if they would give me a proper castlevania game. You can still make your 3d if you want, just give me another symphony of the night.

The problem is Konami would probably be a harder buy than Square or Sega. Their net income in 2019 was double that of square enix and sega last year. This is due to Konami building most of the Pachinko machines and slot machines in japan. Plus they own casinos around the world.

Remember when Konami made great NES games or am I the only old fart who does? Those early NES releases were on par with Nintendo's. Even some of Konami's throw aways were better than mosts developers best.

Sunsoft too. Man some of those classic NES games were magic.

Truly a sad state of affairs then.

Konami was the dominant developer on the nes. Metal gear, castlevania, blades of steal, contra, double dribble, gradius, Tmnt.... Being a master system kid, outside of zelda, Konami was the only reason I wanted an nes.

I'm not disagreeing with you. MG was one of my all time favorites, but only Konami?
No Nintendo titles? No Capcom? Techmo?

Sorry, should have been a 3rd party added in there. Capcom and techmo had some good stuff. But for me, Konami just always comes to mind first when I think of the nes and 3rd party developers. Capcom is a close 2nd for me, but I was never a real megaman fan.

Not really 2020, but it is gaming: I bought a Virtual Boy recently just for the heck of it. I actually like it! My eyes get bothered a little bit if I play it for extended periods, but the games I have so far (Mario's Tennis and Teleroboxer) are actually quite fun.

Back when they were dumping them for 29.99, I almost picked it up. I just couldn't do it. While tennis was ok, most all the games were so eyestrain headache inducing that I passed. Also, if I remember right, it only had 7 or 8 games. It is a good piece of crazy gaming history.

14 in America, 22 total. Still not a lot though. But since I have 2 games, that means I have 14% of it's North American library! :p

The good news, it is about as easy as you can get to find a complete library. Then you can say, yea I have every game for the system. Lol
