The castle with all the colors is cute. I wouldn't say magical but I would say cute. It resembles a childs rendering on the castle. I was hoping for something in the mix that would be beautiful, tear jerking even. These were cool and cute but not pixie dust inspired. Of the three, the castle is the best. The roman numbers?? Like a 4 year old would understand that. The castle is iconic but didn't seem like much thought was put in to making it unique.

At least the comments on the Youtube video are more logical than the DPB comments.

Different then the people's comments in the link that said "This says Disney to me!". Yep, these bad logos say "Disney" (sarcasm).

So the same person created all three?! The epic fail is on Disney's part for hiring the same artist and not getting three completely different viewpoints. What garbage.
I don't think she created all three. She was "responsible" for all three, probably meaning that her team designed them and she helped pick/lead the designs.

I like the IASW Castle thing.

I'm just glad they didn't release "MMXIV Twenty Fourteen." I think I'd have had to lodge my first complaint at WDW.

If they've just decided on a logo, it will be a while before the merchandise hits the shelves. Of course, if it was a lie, we could see the stuff sooner. Knowing Disney, I'll go with sooner rather than later.

First of all, the winning design is uuuggggllllyyyy!!!! (say it in the hyena voice from lion king). Second, it looks like she waited til the last minute to throw something together and thrown together it looks. How hideous! She should not be a designer for Disney. If I was the Disney company, I would be totally ashamed of the work she puts out!

Yeah, I realized that a bit late. How sadly uninspired. I hate to say this about anyone, but she really needs to take a look in the mirror and realize she's become complacent. It's easy to do in this industry.

Was there ever any doubt? Two of the designs were atrocious!
That was my take too.

"Okay, here's the one we want. Unfortunately, some doofus in Marketing thinks it would be cute to let the public 'vote' on a winning design, so if you could come up with two more that are so horrible that no one would vote for them, that would be great."

Patty's explanations for her designs are pretty lame in that video on the Disney Parks blog. For the design which crowbars 12 or so attraction logos into a 'Twenty 14', her inspiration 'was basically all of our iconic park logos'... no duh! The obvious Mary Blair rip-off was inspired by Mary Blair... Oh, and the horribly-tacky roman numerals in the shape of the Fab-5 was inspired by... the Fab-5! Wow, it really sounds like a lot of thought when into designing those eyesore logos! ...I dread to think of what Avatarland will end up like if Patty becomes part of the design team!

You don't have to be Jacques Pepin to distinguish between filet mignon and a turd on a plate ;)

Point is, who is calling the shots? The designers or the PR dept? My money is on the PR and Exec dept. Seems kind of short-sighted to complain about the designers when they're likely only doing what they're told. The question isn't which design is the best, the question is which design will make the most money. It's not uncommon to end up in that conversation, lately.

The designers had about as much creative input as you and I do. I've worked in a similar job for years and as a designer, I'm at the mercy of directors and execs and people above me who have little to no creative backgrounds. The designers could have had amazing ideas and they were slowly edited to oblivion to what you see here. That's how it usually happens at least. I don't know any of these folks, but I'd safely assume it's the same situation.
