The following was posted yesterday in JP Von Drake's thread from last year about 2010 package rates:
It used to be that you could book your room 18 months in advance by getting a room only reservation. The problem with that was two-fold 1) You had to pay a full night's stay deposit 2) When you were ready to book a package, the travel company had to cancel your room only reservation and rebook it as a package.
It looks like WDW reservations finally got it right. As of 7/18/10, guests can now book future package stays via the Basic Package.
The Basic Package allows you to book your room under the package category so when future dining and ticket prices come out, you simply add-on to the package. No need to rebook - you keep the same reservation number. And the best part? You only have to pay the $200.00 deposit.
How do I know all of this? I just booked my room for 2011 using the basic package! :sohappy:
Last week, I had called and booked a room only for Carribbean Beach and, based on what I just quoted, I called back this morning and asked if the above info is correct. The CM on the phone said it is, indeed, correct, and that 2011 room rates are now finalized and that a basic package can now be reserved for 2011 based on those prices. Then, presumably in August, when dining plan and ticket prices are made available for 2011, you can call back and simply add those to the package, without having to cancel and re-book...since it is already booked as a package.
So she cancelled my room only reservation and re-booked it as a basic package and told me that this is the official, locked in room rate for April of 2011. She gave me a new reservation number and, as it usually seems to be with a package reservation, the confirmation number started out with two letters, whereas my room only last week was just the usual numbers only.
Just thought some of you would want to know!
Oh, by the way, so as not to mislead anyone, the above quote was not by JP Von Drake himself. But regardless, I called this morning and verified it.
