You can make room only reservations 499 days in advance, but you will pay estimated rates that will be adjusted later.

Actual rates and online booking will be available in August, usually.

I just called to see when I could make my reservations for Dec. 2010. I was told I could reserve the room only, with unsecured rates. Once 2010 rates are posted, the room will automatically adjust to the correct current rate. Once the package rates are posted, (about August - but he said definitely by Sept. 1st) that we can add the package. I'm already planning to do this so that I can be paying for a deluxe hotel and would only have the package to pay for by the time the rates come out.

FYI - if you make the room only booking now, and want to switch to a package later, they will first refund all that you have paid on the room only booking.... it can't easily be moved from one system to the other.

I booked my room back at the first of April. If I just leave it alone and don't convert it to a package or anything, will I still automatically receive some kind of a notification of what the actual rate ends up being once they adjust it in August? Or will I have to call to find that out?

How does booking in advance help with free dining? For example, would I be able to book my room, and then switch it to free dining if they decide to do it for 2010? Or do I have to wait for them to announce free dining before I can book.

Any ideas?

I think if you book in advance, before free dining is even announced, when the free dining is announced, you would have to call and tell them that you are interested in that offer. And I imagine that would involve cancelling your reservation and re-booking it under the free dining promotion.
