dandaman's Grad Trip 2005

5:30 a.m.- Arrive at school
This in itself was interesting... the power had gone out the previous night, and came back on around 2:30 a.m. The bad thing was, almost all of the alarms were reset. The good news was that only one person was late. (We called her from the bus, and we woke her up by calling her.)

6:15 a.m.- On Road (finally!)
Coach Canada buses are awesome. (Reminded me of the Disney Cruise Line buses, as a matter of fact...) We watched the Waterboy and... well, I forget... :hammer:

8:00 a.m. Had a hearty breakfast of Gummie Bears and chocolate...

10:30 a.m.- Arrived in Toronto, Ontario
- Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
For those of you who haven't experienced it, the next time you go to Orlando, they have the exact same thing...
This show was awesome in every sense of the word. I wonder how much lances they go through each show? :) A genuine mace-and-shield fight is a "royal jubilee", IMO.
(P.S. Yellow Knight [our section] won!

1:00- Olympic Spirit
It has a very nice video in the theatre at the start, with the musical score created exclusively for it... by Mel Brooks, no less.
After, there are two floors to choose from: Winter Games, or Summer Games. The Summer Games section was fun for about 5 minutes... due to the fact that I ran too fast and hit my knee into the mats at the end of a 100 m simulator. Twice. The cool thing is, I was the fastest time for the day (10.9 sec. projected for 100 m!) Unfortunately, my knee is still bruised.
The Winter Games floor had a curling simulator (got really close to the dot... but a classmate knocked it off and got nearly right on  ), and a speed skating simulator. (Imagine a roller rink with non-skid booties on. :))
Didn't get to try out the bobsled simulator, but I don't think my knee would've been up to it anyways.

3:30- Playdium Mississauga
The fact of getting to Playdium was an adventure in itself. The first time I've experienced T.O. traffic on a weekday... not good.
The Playdium is essentially a huge arcade, with a few simulators. There was a roller coaster simulator, but it didn't look half of CyberSpace Mountain. ;)
The other one (like a big "Spider-Man"-type ride in a theatre) was out of order...
The arcade games were pretty fun. It reminded me a lot like DisneyQuest on one floor. There were 8 Daytona 500's set up in a row (with cameras), and the same thing with Indy 500 (whereas the cars actually move in response to your driving. I spun out and nearly hit the guy operating the games. )

6:30- Depart for Home
Given our late arrival to the Playdium, we left for Belle River about a half-hour late. On the ride home, we watched "Are We There Yet?" and "Van Helsing". Seeing as how there were major storms outside, watching "Van Helsing" im them was... interesting. :) Some of the lightning flashes were planned, I swear...

11:00- Arrive in Belle River

Overall, it was a great grad trip. Watching TV on a bus, driving an Indy car for 2 hours, a jousting tournament, and running for your life...
There's nothing sweeter.

Well, over here in the UK we don't actually graduate from School, we just leave. We graduate from University. I finished on June 3rd 2005. On July 4th I begin my new job in Scotland. My graduation ceremony however will be held in St. Albans Cathedral in November where (all being well) I will graduate with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.

I graduated from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville Florida with honors on May 18. On June 25th i will be movin to orlando to attend UCF where i will be studying hospitality Management. I cant wait. :)

Seems as if graduation is sneaking up on me... only 6 days until I'm out of the school I've been in for 10 years. (We have Junior and Senior Kindergarten in Canada... I didn't fail. :))
It turns out I'm Valedictorian for our graduating class. :sohappy:
The only bad part is, of course, making the speech... Trying to compact everyone's memories from grade school into "one convenient package" is kind of stressful.

Congratulations! That is such an honor! Don't worry about the speach, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Wow, 10 years is a long time in one school. The most I ever made it in one school is 4 years (and that was high school). I moved a bit as a kid.

Thanks, tig. I started (and somewhat finished) my speech today (under the course of 2 hours...).

Well, I’ll sum it up in one sentence: You wouldn’t be here today without grade school.
I don’t just mean here, in this gym, right now. I mean that grade school has had one of the biggest influences on your life so far. Think about it; most, if not all, of your friends, were made in grade school. Plus, your time here has prepared you for high school, university, and even a career. However, the best thing you’ll have coming out of this school and going to a new one are the memories.
You have memories of field trips to the zoo, Point Pelee, even on the last one we had to Toronto… some of the best memories are from our grad trip, including a dancing hobo… minus his pants…
You have memories of special days at the school; Food Days, Play Days, Wacky Hair Day, Bubble Gum Day… you name it, we’ve probably had a day for it.
You remember all of the new people that have come to our school over the past few years.
You have memories of the great music videos you made, you have memories of kindergarten naps in the middle of the day, you have memories of people who were there, but… weren’t “there”…
Unfortunately, there are so many memories that I can’t say them all right now. However, you will always have those memories, through high school, through your career… through your life.
Congratulations, graduates of 2005!

That's my speech so far. It'd take a little explaining for the rest of you to understand some things in it... like the hobo. PM me if you want more info, I guess... :)
P.S. We don't have a banquet hall for ceremonies and things, we just use our school gymnasium. Rather convenient, actually.
