2 Resorts 1 trip

How difficult is it to switch resorts during your vacation? Like if I wanted to spend the first 3 nights at one resort, then the last 4 nights at a different place. We do Magical Express, would changing hotels mess this up? Will Disney transfer your luggage? Has anyone had a good or bad experience doing this?

No problem with Magical Express.

Disney will transfer your luggage properly 99.8% of the time - I've done it many times, and only once was the transfer botched - the luggage somehow never arrived at my second resort until just after 8pm - and many phone calls by me and the destination resort luggage services.

Just be sure to talk to Bell Services via phone or in person the night before and possibly the morning of the switch - and be sure to pack a daypack/daybag as you will be without a "home" and your luggage for a few hours.

Thanks for the info. We usually spend the entire day at the parks so it sounds like it wont be a problem!

Regarding Magical Express, just make sure to give your arrival flight info for the first hotel reservation, and your departure flight info for the second hotel reservation.

IMHO, the level of difficulty is not really based on Disney's Bell Services doing their job - generally speaking there aren't many problems, and considering how many people are checking in and out of WDW every day, there don't seem to be too many people switching resorts and complaining.

No, the real level of difficulty is you and your party, how quick and easy will it be for you to pack in the middle of your trip to move to a different room?

My wife and I did it once, and there were no troubles, but it was just the two of us. Next time we anticipate going, it will be with a pre-schooler and an infant or toddler, so I can't imagine willingly switching rooms mid-trip until they were old enough to do their own packing, if at all.

But when we did it, I was glad we did it. A week in a studio at the Wilderness Villas. followed by 3 nights in a 1BR at Boardwalk, giving us an opportunity to stay at a MK resort and an Epcot resort, AND to get all our laundry done before leaving for home, so we could pack less or not spend an afternoon in the laundry room of either resort. :)

The packing up and moving would not be too hard for us as we are just 2 adults. I tend to keep the room organized so it really shouldn't be a problem for us! But I could see how it would be more difficult with children especially if they need to take an afternoon nap.

2 resorts---success

We changed resorts with our last 4 vacations-and will be this Dec also.
Here's what we do:

1. We pack on the outside of our luggage, bathing suits, change of clothes (or in carry on) and any "freshners" we may need to do a change when we arrive at the resort--this way if the room is not ready, we have the kids bathing suits weather permitting (for Dec) or a change of clothes-and hit a park before checking in.
2. When transferring, we take our carry ons with us along with anything we may need for the day-(just in case)
3. Transfers have been smooth except once--but within a few hours (when leaving for dinner res) the luggage appeared--one was at the wrong resort and one was in the baggage holding area. (mother in laws bags-) ours were perfect!:D
4. Never used magical express--usually rent a car-but transfer luggage between resorts
5. Resort transfers: always have the same ending resort: Poly. But different starting resorts (All Star Sports, Music, Movie, Wilderness Lodge)
6. This Dec we will be transferring 3 times! Coronado (never been) first day only. Then transfer luggage and drive to Poly for 4 days ending with Beach Club (never been) as of right now 1 day but may extend to 2.

Have a Magical Vacation!

Add us to another group that transferred with minimal issues.

We left one resort, took the bus over to Downtown Disney then to our new resort so we could check in early on. This is probably not as efficient as going to a park and checking in later, but its how we chose to do it. Magical express wasn't an issue when we left, just make sure you call and confirm before you leave for your trip to be sure.

The only glitch we had was with the luggage. We transferred to the Yacht Club but they brought our luggage to the Beach Club. The figured it out fairly quickly, but had to wait in the evening for them to bring our luggage over to the room after they tracked it down.

One thing that got left out....Changing resorts with a room only reservation is a breeze. However, changing with a package reservation that includes the dining plan is a bit of a problem.
