2 DVC Studios versus 2 bedroom villa

We are planning on taking another couple with us to June next year, and were originally planning on renting a 2-bedroom villa at either OKW or SSR. However, after looking at the amount of points for both places, we realize that renting 2 studios would cost less points than the villas.

Has anyone ever tried getting 2 studios? Would this be under one reservation number? We will try to request adjoining studios, but don't really care if we don't get it as long as both are in the same location/building.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about SSR, but I don't believe that you can get adjoining studios at OKW. They tend to alternate with one-bedrooms so that they can be combined into two-bedroom "lock-offs". You can, however, get two studios above each other, which actually isn't bad when they are the end units (Building 56 is an example where the 3-story building becomes two stories at the ends with studios on both floors at each end).

There are advantages to the 2-bedroom having two studios including the expansive living area, the jacuzzi tub, the washer/drier in the unit and the nice big patio or balcony.

I'd be very surprised if, at the very least, they couldn't get you in the same building. But depending on how much time you plan on spending in the rooms (and what you plan to be doing in those rooms, wink wink nudge nudge, you might want to consider the 2-bedoom for the reasons oldkeyw mentioned. Especially when it comes to laundry. There are laundry rooms available on-site, but believe me, it's awesome to be able to pack less, throw a load of laundry in your own washer in the morning, throw it in the dryer before you go to bed, and never having to take an afternoon you could be spending in the parks or relaxing watching over your skivvies like a hawk in the open laundry areas.

Thanks for the info on OKW.

The laundry convenience, while it is nice, isn't that big of a factor. We tend to pack and bring way more clothes than we need. Besides, we will be there only for 5 nights, shorter than our normal visit to WDW.

It looks like we have decided on doing the 2 studios route. So we'll request the 2 units to be at least in the same building.

You can rent 2 studios, they will not adjoin. We have traveled with another couple and prefer the 2-br. We like to have a nice breakfast in villa, visit parks then return to villa mid afternoon for rest, swim cocktails etc. The space available in the villa just makes it so much nicer.

If points are the issue, a 2-br at OKW is about the same as some 1-br at other dvc resorts.

It's all personal preference and the number of points you have. Two adjoinong studios is really two hotel rooms...which to me sort of defeats the purpose of DVC. A two bedroom suite makes you feel more at home. If you can't swing the points, fine, go for it.

Well, considering we'll be spending the whole time together while at the parks, I don't think it would be awful if we were to not be in the same location all the time when we're resting at the DVC resort. So not being in the same unit isn't that big of a deal for us.

While it's nice to use less points, that wasn't the biggest consideration. We'll have 230 points, plus 110 points carried over from this year. So we'll have more than enough for that, and another trip for just us later (we plan on going twice next year).
