1st Week of June- Where to stay/transportation to parks

Hi there
We're driving to WDW staying 6/6-13th. Also awaiting Star Wars weekend dates too. Currently we have ASM Family Suites booked for our family of 5 (ages 8 and under). But we haven't ever been during the summer, and I'm worried about crowds and transportation to parks. Should we consider Pop Century or a cabin? Will they provide better bus tranportation? This will be the first time for us to drive, so I haven't figured out if we'll drive ourselves to the parks or use the bus system.

Any suggestions? We've been many times, just some new scenarios of logistics have me second guessing things.

Thanks!

I have been a couple of times the first week of June, it was HOT and not too crowded. I am not a Star Wars fan so I can't comment on those activities.

We love FW, but honestly, the suites will probably be better for you since there will be more than one bathroom. Little ones may need to "go" and may not be able to wait...

We usually have our car but once we get on property it stays parked. I have never had any hesitation about using the transportation provided. It can be slow but if you leave plenty of time to get where you all want to be then you will be fine. For instance, leave the parks in plenty of time to return to the resort for naps etc... try to avoid rushing to get back with cranky, hot, hungry and tired kids. Plan ahead, take restful pool breaks mid-day and naps/quiet time to completely enjoy the time you are spending there. Above all, have fun!

Hey!

We went the first week of June in 2009. It was the last weekend of Star Wars Weekends when we were there. We stayed at the cabins and we loved our stay there, but being at the cabins added considerable travel time to our already long bus/ boat rides (and waits.)

Keep in mind we did not rent a golf cart, and instead relied on the "internal bus system" at Fort Wilderness. If you choose a cabin, be sure to factor in the extra $50 a night to rent a golf cart. While it wasn't necessary, we decided that if we ever stayed at the cabins again we would rent one just for the convenience.

The crowds at the parks weren't terrible. Not a 10 for sure! But they weren't empty either. I'd say they were about the same size crowds we encountered a few weeks ago during the 2nd week of December.

We've stayed at the All Stars several times. Never had a problem with any "extra" bus stops (at All Star Sports, Movies) adding significant time onto our bus ride. Maybe an extra 5 to 10 minutes? Usually not even 5.

The hardest part for us was the heat. We had to take a nap every day (a first for us!) it was so hot. But we still had a fabulous time!

Hope you have a great trip too!

We always go to WDW during the first week of June and its normally not too bad with the crowds. I'd recommend to drive to the parks but not magic kingdom as the lines for the monarail and boat are always long and its easier to take the bus to the resort. Also Star Wars Weekends is always on that week, its usually the last week of it, you should go on the Friday as the Saturday and Sunday are always more crowded.

We have driven each time we visited and stayed at ASM 4 times. DRIVE to the parks! We did the buses 1x and its just waiting in more lines, standing sometimes on the bus, tired cranky kids and sweaty people.

Its so easy to navigate around WDW and parking is free for resort guests, you usually can park close and take the tram to the front of park anyway. Plus no lines - no cranky people - you are back to your room in 5-10 minutes.

I wouldnt do it any other way personally. Even if we ever flew, we would rent a car.

I think your choice in a suite at All Star Music is a great Choice... We love Pop, but if you stay there, you will need to do 2 rooms with 5 people, unless one child is over 2. But still think you will enjoy the added room in the suite... I highly recommend NOT considering FW cabins... I personally think transportation there is an absolute nightmare, especially traveling with kids!

As far as the weather and crowds go, we been there a few times the first few weeks of June and it is HOT and crowded but managable! Schedule mid-day breaks back at the resort and you will be good to go.

All Star Music also has fun things for kids to do poolside during the day and on select nights has movies under the stars. My DS who is 9 still talks about all the fun he had staying at Music and that was over 3 years ago now!

Enjoy!

I recommend keeping the Family Suite. They are pretty nice. Also, the room has 2 bathrooms and with 5 of you that might come in handy. The kids will enjoy the pullout sofa and chair. My kids alternated between the sofa and chair.

Since you are driving, I recommend driving yourself to the parks. As someone else mentioned the streets are not to difficult to navigate and the parking is free. Also, if you are a AAA member, all the parks offer special parking.

Early June is not too crowded and not extremely hot (at least most of the time). I have done the Star Wars Weekend a bunch of times. As the years have progressed, Disney Hollywood Studios has gotten more and more crowded during those weekends. You can do a combination of park and Star Wars but you will not get to do and see everything. What I did on my last visit was plan 2 days at the Studios. One day for Star Wars and one day for the park and that worked out pretty well. And of course the park day was not on a Star Wars Weekend. I believe someone mentioned going on Friday. That is probably a good idea but the park still will be pretty crowded.

Enjoy and have a great time
