1st Trip Report... 1st DVC Trip... Here We Go!!!

My husband (Adam) 34 and I (Alayna) 28, have wanted to do a trip report for a while now, and have never actually taken the time to do one, but that changes today, so here it goes.

To start off, let me give you a little background to our story. I have been going to Walt Disney World since I was three years old with my parents (Martin and Glenda) 61 and 60 and older sister ( Angie)36. We live in Texas, and have gone almost every year between 1987 -2007. Walt Disney World is such a special place for us, because it really has helped our family through some extremely tough times. My dad was diagnosed with non –hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1994 and has had 5 occurrences since. He has been through two bone marrow transplants in 1997 and 1999 and God willing is still with us today. :) So during these very hard times we always had Walt Disney World, A place that we could get away together and not think about “reality” for the week. My dad has been in remission since 2001, yet has had two heart attacks since then. So that is the story of my family and I’s LOVE for all things Walt Disney.

Now for the introduction of my husband, who had never been to WDW before his first trip to the world on our “Disneymoon” in July of 2007. His first experience was a 12 day trip, staying at the Wilderness Lodge. ( BIG props to the parentals and grandparents for this :) ) He was instantly hooked ! YES!!!... A dream come true to share my love of Disney with my husband, who I jokingly say now is more obsessed with Walt Disney World than I am ;). So we will be making our 7th trip in 5 years this month. (Sept. 8th -16th.) This will also be our first trip as DVC members, so obviously we are ecstatic and cannot hardly contain our excitement! We literally get up every morning and the first thing that comes out of our mouth is the countdown of how many days left. (don’t judge us… we already know we are crazy!)

Now, onto the setup for this trip. We will be joined for the first leg of our trip by my parents, my sister, and her 20 month old son Sam. This will be his first trip, and everyone is ALL about Sam… haha

They will be staying with us from Sept 8-Sept 14 at the Board Walk Villas in a 2 bedroom. Hubby and I will then move on to BLT after they leave on Friday the 14th (just realized I am so glad that is not Friday the 13th or my dad would have had to leave a day earlier J-superstitious much?) We will be at BLT from Sept14-Sept 16 in a one bedroom. We have always wanted to try out the layout at the Contemporary, so we figured the 2 nights would give us a taste to see if we are impressed with the style, or if it will feel too non-Disney for our liking.

I love to have faces to stories, so here are a few of our lovely mug-shots :)

Alayna (Me)

I work in an accounting office, so paperwork galore will surely attack and keep me busy these next few days. Come Saturday morning before the sun rises though, my hubby and I will wake to zero days left of our countdown and to the airport we will head.

I hope you guys will check back with us when we return, as I am already excited to write my first OFFICAL trip report with lots of pictures and tales to tell!

I love your family history with Disney World...it is something we are trying to create for our kids and hope to pass on to our future (way in the future) grandchildren as well. I totally understand the stress of cancer and sick parents and how Disney can offer such a great escape from reality. My dad is fighting lung cancer for the second time now and my mom is recovering from complications from open heart surgery. Dealing with all of that can be so overwhelming and heavy. I think a trip to Disney is one of the best things you can do for yourself to alleviate some of that stress. Have a great trip and please make sure to post all the details. I will have to live vicariously through you, at least for a couple of months until we get to cruise on the Dream!

Also, tell Adam (love his shirt) I said welcome to the SEC and Roll Tide! :)

It is such a magical place!... I am sorry to hear about your parents ailings, but hopefully your cruise will also help you let your mind take a breather!
Lemme know how you enjoy the cruise.... We have never been on one, but are hoping to make it happen one day. Our only problem is if we EVER try to plan anything other than WDW, it always gets put on the back burner and to Disney we head again. ;)

Can;t wait to read all about it!! I especially want to see how you like BLT because that's somewhere I have wanted to stay recently but I feel it might be too "non-disney" for me.

I don't get it... How can a resort which has the monorail run right in front and has unreal views of the magic kingdom feel "non Disney". OK, I get that the theming isn't the greatest. But non Disney... NO WAY!

Yes, if you look out the window and see the Monorail or MK it feels like Disney but the rooms at BLT remind me of some modern European hotels I've stayed at while on business. IMHO, they are very nice rooms with some subtle Disney detailing but they certainly don't scream Disney. Some of the Value and Moderate Resorts do that.

I meant theme-wise. Contemporary has always screamed DIsney to me... But for some reason with BLT, I don't get that same feeling. Obviously with the MK and momorail right outside, Disney is all around it. I just meant the interior theming and rooms.

So back in the hotel for the night after our first day of Disney!... Our boardwalk 2 bedroom is AMAZING... We went to Epcot today.
Got there about 2:30... It poured for maybe 2 minutes.. Haha
We only were able to do three rides before our dinner reservation, but each one was a walk-on! :)
Little Sam is loving it here... He adored figment and Nemo.
Even got his picture taken with pooh and tigger in the U.K and loved them... I will post all that with pics though once we get home.
Off to animal kingdom tomorrow!
