We don't have lots of time left so let’s get this ball rolling. I was thinking a huge extravagant nighttime lake show, a daytime parade, and of course the grand castle!

Checklist for today:

  1. Castle layout (I know @Mickeynerd17 expressed interest in the castle so i’ll let you flesh out that idea.)
  2. Parade theme ideas
  3. Nighttime lake show story idea
  4. Statue?

Let’s get brainstorming!

Since the initial suggestion from @Mickeynerd17 was German castles, let’s look at some of those...

Neuschwanstein Castle, which was I believe the primary influence on Sleeping Beauty Castle

They’re all doubtlessly beautiful fairy tale settings. This is also the castle style which Disney already uses. I’d like to look at some other types of European castles to see if there’s something more unique we can do.

Alright, let’s look at some other castle styles for group feedback.

I’ll start with Eastern European castles.

Next up are some castles from Portugal and Spain. I’m personally a big fan of these, with their sunnier color scheme and medieval Moorish style, but how does everyone else feel?

These are all so beautiful. I really like the darker tone ones with the browns and black color palette. I also feel like we should wait a bit or ask the entrance team to see what vibe they are going for.

These are all wonderful starters! So many design choices to choose from! My mind is going nuts with ideas.

I think having a combination of german/ eastern europe/ french castle architecture would make for an epic centerpiece. That being said, I'm thinking of having the main castle base being based off of St Michel, the way it's set up is just beautiful! Then, slap some german/ eastern europe towers on it, and it would be awesome, plus having the castle built on a large rock would make for some cool waterways around it.

Entrance team member here, we seem to be going for a spooky kinda vibe and the dracula castle might be a great fit, but the really colorful ones seem slightly out of place.

This island siting idea sounds epic. We could build the castle upwards in layers, from a rocky seaside base, to defensive turret walls, to increasingly ornate beautiful spires in the German / Eastern European style. I’d like to have it set on a peninsula, so on one side of the rocky cliffs we can have a hillside of colorful autumnal trees. Think that detail especially would mesh it visually with Boston.

And for an extra touch of fantasy whimsy, what if those rocky cliffs took the forms of various Disney characters? Sort of like the animal forms in DAK’s Tree of Life.

Whatever we do, what theme do we want? A princess? Fantasia? That’s something to discuss with the entire team.

One thing to note about the castle is that we were thinking of putting the park in Europe, where there's castles just a quick walk from someone's home. So we have to keep in mind that if we go with a European-styled castle, we would have to take a page from Paris's book and make it more fanciful so that it doesn't blend in with the other castles down the street.

Speaking of Paris, one thing I kind of want to borrow from their hub is those stages they added recently for their seasonal parades. They're low key enough to not be too disrupted, but still add a little something to the proceedings that just enhances the overall experience. Only problem I see is that they eat up a lot of greenery space.

Ok, if you guys are going for a spooky vibe, I think the direction for the castle should lean towards the Dark Beauty Castle from the Epic Mickey game from 2010. It's basically paris's castle with a spooky vibe

That might be leaning a bit too much into the spooky vibe. This is our icon, the thing we're putting on most of the advertisement and merchandising. We need to be able to market this thing without scaring off small kids.

Plus, as the park weenie, this would have be visible all over the park, so making it like that might be a bit too ominous.

So we want a sorta spooky castle. But since this is a Disney Park, we’ll also want something family-friendly and in keeping with their princess traditions, as @b-wolf95 points out.

How about Snow White Castle?

Not a direct copy, oh no, but merging this concept with the darker German/East European ideas we’ve discussed. (BTW, the film’s castle was apparently inspired by Spain’s Alcázar pictured up-thread.)

There could be a spooky walkthrough in the dungeon level leading guests through the Evil Queen’s labs. The castle’s upper levels can house the happier Snow White princess elements. Best of both worlds!

Yes!! I love this idea! If we just change the color scheme around a bit so it doesn't clash with the two attractions next to it, I think it could really work out well.

And we're right back to my original idea 🤣.

Having Snow White Castle mixed with the St Michel layout and some more spooky elements would keep with the tradition of princess castles, be family friendly, but also be cool for teens. Win-win-win!

Princess who hasn't had a castle yet? Is dark but still family friendly? Has attractions practically built into it? Goes well with ideas we already had? Yes, yes, and YES!
