I put a laughing emoji because we were thinking even further away....South Africa 😆

Oh, see this is what happens when you don't plan things.

One slight concern I would have for this is the potential to mean less to the local inhabitants. Would the people of South Africa see a Boston Harbor land as the gateway between the real world and fantasy? I don't know, Boston is on the other side of the world.

In terms of lands that might better fit that country... South Africa is a challenge because of the long history of apartheid. We can't really appeal to South Africa's history without bringing up some very recent moral dilemmas... unless we got way back to pre-colonized Africa, which would work better for an Adventureland esque "base camp" more so than a Main Street. Now that I'm thinking about it, the best bet would probably be some Afro-futuristic utopia land with a style similar to Wakanda.

If we lean into the fantastical elements of New England mythology, I think it would fit just fine. My high school girlfriend's parents were from South Africa, and while they definitely don't exemplify all of the people of South Africa, they were always talking about how living there they always wanted to move to New England because of the pictures they had seen, so I'd say it has at least enough awareness that people of South Africa are interested enough to make this land work

Because @mickeyfan5534 doesn't require a location in the prompt, I'm of the mind we don't even have to focus on where it's going as it's just blue sky at this point, especially if we can't find a location we all agree on. I think if we just focus on designing the best park we can we'll be able to plop it in an area where all will like it.

I view the entrance sort of like DisneySea's American Waterfront - whereas Japanese locals might not have nostalgia for a NY street or harbor, but if it's designed well it won't make a difference.

I don't think we should pick a location yet at all.

The Haunted Mansion in a lighthouse would make for some really cool corkscrew type tracks up and down.

The Sleepy Hallow Walkthrough would be great placed behind one of the streets, similar to where the trick or treat trail start gets set up behind "main street" so its kinda almost a hidden entrance and off the forced path so people who want to avoid the overly spooky dont have to be anywhere near it unless by choice.

I just made this fish sign,

I left the actual sign part empty cause I’m not sure where it should be used & what it should be called, that is if it’s used at all

So, updating my proposed map with some of our ideas...

Left side is more spooky (but not too spooky, its still a main street). Right Side is more historical/real. But both sides wind up being consistent and more subtle theming.

Lighthouse has a stretching type hidden elevator that takes people under the land so they can get to the showbuilding.

Sleepy Hollow walkthrough takes up a lot of the spooky street storefronts. The rest of this side I see as more higher quality and themed stuff.

The majority of smaller or more general Shops/dining can be on the historical side. An emporium and a Casey's Corner and stuff like that. Muppet/Hamilton helping anchor that side and drawing people over who entered from the other side.

I'm picturing a boathouse entrance for the TTC and the library entrance for the Shopping District side.

What I figured is, Pi did a great job with the map and now at least we have a visual to go off of that map, however it can be considered 'early concept art'

Especially since we only have till Wednesday at 12am (does that mean Tuesday at 11:59pm?) we can focus on the content, and if we draw things to go along with it that's a great bonus!

Oh yeah, that map i made was really just for helping with figuring out the layout haha.

So, looking at things we've talked about or are common in main streets
  • Muppets/Hamilton
  • Haunted Lighthouse
  • Sleepy Hollow Walkthrough
  • Coffee Shop/bakery
  • Emporium
  • Casey's Corner type place
  • Fancy dinner
  • Character meal
  • Guest Services
  • First Aid
  • Smaller more themed store (maybe a few)
  • Cinema
Most of these only need a sentence or a paragraph. But at least one store and one food place getting a bit more of a write up would be nice.

And what did we want for our entrances? We have two, so we need two "train stations"

I suggested earlier a boat house/dock for the Historical side and the library for the spooky side.

Coffee shop I can do, the sleepy hallow walk i could work on unless someone else really wants to, i can also work on the lighthouse if it needs another person

Having researched Boston a bit, here is my pitch for the land's center:

The States Market
1600558074716.png

Boston is known for its thriving trade. At the States Market, merchants from across the United States gather in small stands orbiting a central pavilion. At each stand is an icon of the state, unique state "food", and a state-specific fun fact. There are 6 stands with 18 total states rotating in and out by-the-day. Each stand serves its own "product" coming in from the Habor.
Thoughts?
