I also have a poor quality special. Though, I am not sure what it is. One scene has Bob Hope telling jokes in the monorail section of the Contemporary Hotel.

Take care,
Greg

Didn't Disney do a show for the opening of Animal Kingdom where they showed a family traveling in an RV to Florida for the opening? Or did I dream that??? :hammer:

You are correct. There was a one hour special for Disney's Animal Kingdom on ABC as part of The Wonderful World of Disney. It was hosted by Drew Carey and featured various celebrities experiencing the various attractions in the park. The scene you're recalling is Jane Seymour and her family as they take a tour (sans poacher chase) on Kilimanjaro Safaris. I have it on my server on Disney Central as a zipped file of Quicktime movies which together make up the whole show.

That`ll be the Julie Andrews `guide` version. Bob arrives via monorail to unofficially dedicate the resort. It`s so dated it`s great!

I remember watching that 1971 special when I was I kid. The Jackson 5 either hosted it or played a prominent role. I remember watching them going on the rides. It must have made a big impression on me since I only saw it once but I remember it 34 years later.

The only things close to Disney specials/opening videos I have are... Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain, New Kids On The Block live at MGM Studios (very much worth checking out), this video store by me has the original EPCOT tourists video, and a handful of Disney X-mas parades.

Disney Learning Centers have them at WDW. Get in touch with a Cast Member and you can see them. The Today Show with the opening of Epcot Center is quite good as well.

A couple of provisos, addendums, and quid pro quos for my previous post - first, I was wrong about two opening Magic Kingdom specials. Welcome to the World is actually a grand opening for Space Mountain from 1975. It is also amazingly bad...the Lucy Arnaz-hosted special some have mentioned. There is a lot of truly painful singing and mugging at the camera with only about 5 minutes actually dedicated to the opening of Space Mountain...at the very end. And then she sings through part of that, too! The other thing I should mention and didn't realize was that the recordings were done before I had DirecTV and consequently are not as pristine as I would like (man, I wish they'd bring back Vault Disney to the Disney Channel!). I'll still be happy to copy these to DVD for anyone interested in possibly trading, but I thought everyone should know they aren't getting a digital-quality picture. They are both very watchable (again, if you can get past the painful singing and dancing) and complete, but not perfect.
