1964 Worlds Fair

I found some interesting videos some of you Epcot Fans might like of any of you Disney fans from New York. It's the 1964 Worlds Fair at New York city. Walt Disney had allot of involvement there and that's what makes it even more interesting. It's hard to believe all this happened only an hour away from my house. I know I'm only 21 years old but seeing this makes me feel just as bad as looseing a million bucks.

The Disney company also used the fair to test the animatronics

He cut the rope for the ford magic skyway

The Ford Pavilion has allot of Epcot Center Characteristics

Here's the Magic Skyway

I'm not sure if Walt Disney was involved with this ride but it sure reminders me something that would be at Epcot if
it were around in the 60s, it's called Futureama

These are some views of the park, they show mideval Illuminations at the end.

Here's the long video that tells it all if you have time to kill

I was there too. I remember CoP and Small World, and I believe the Ford pavillion had animatronic dinosaurs that later went to Disneyland. And the Illinois pavillion featured Abe Lincoln, which I remember being amazed at.

I have a huge collection of MP3 audio from this (including a blooper reel of sorts of Walt messing up while recording the voiceover for the Ford attraction). I had never seen videos until you shared these however so thank you! I unfortunately (or is that fortunately) wasn't born until 13 years after this but every time I learn a little more about it I wish I had been. :)

I always stare when we drive past the fairgrounds. For those not from NY, many of the skeletons of the structures are still there and it's on a pretty main thoroughfare not far from Citi Field and LaGuardia airport. It's fascinating to think what it must have been like.

http://www.worldsfaircommunity.org/topic/2816-new-discovery/ heres an interesting article, the bottom mentions the 2014 Worlds Fair that I dont see happening, heres the paragraph from it.

Since the 2014-15 New York World's Fair was announced in 2003, secret plans to either restore or recreate the Tower Of The Four Winds have been under way between WED and the SIPII Foundation. Once the fair is over, the ToTFW will be transported to EPCoT Center in Orlando for permanent exhibition taking its rightful place of honor among other great Disney achievements. Perhaps the uninspiring (if you'll pardon the pun) Spire of Many Points at Universal Studios Milwaukee provided the impetus for The Mouse's decision?

Its hard to believe something almost as good as Disney World and as good maybe even better then Epcot was right there. Imagine if he went thru with his idea of making a park in that spot on the old Worlds Fair grounds. That would have been an amazing park. There are always spitball ideas for that spot but im not getting my hopes up.

That article is not at all accurate. Expo 2015 is going to be in Milan, Italy, and another New York Expo being a two year deal would mean it would, like the 1964-1965 Fair, be an unofficial World's Fair. So even though there have been attempts for New York to host another Expo (which would fit the 2004 date) they have yet to succeed and would not last year years.

I also do not believe either Walt Disney or Robert Moses ever really wanted Flushing Meadows to become another Disneyland. I think this is legend that mixes Moses' plan for a new grand park, Disney World and Freedomland to create a story that seemed plausible.

There's a long blank space after the article, then this...

This article was created to celebrate April Fool's Day 2004.

Maybe the sources ment he was going to continue the Worlds Fair For the futureistic park he had planned. I don't think Robert Moses would settle for Disneyland either. His work was verry modern for its time and still verry elegant. I always love going thru the Robert Moses areas. Thanks allot now you got me researching Robert Moses and his work LOL.
