12 Trips to WDW and NEVER on Tom Sawyer's Island!

We have been to WDW and more specifically MK tons of times. For some reason we have never set foot on Tom Sawyer's Island. We always talk about going on the Island but we end up doing the same stuff that keeps us coming back.

Are there others like me?

Am I really missing out?

I haven't been there since Regan was in the White House.

I keep meaning to stop by too...but it just seems like so much of a commitment when I'm on a solo trip (I like to move around quickly and there isn't a ton there to do either), and when I'm on a family trip we usually have someone in a wheelchair and that place isn't terribly WC-friendly.

If they retheme ours to Pirates I'll check it out...but yeah, it's my least visited MK attraction. It's the only one that I don't see at least once a year.

I like walking through the caves and checking out the fort. It's not an attraction I visit every time I go, but it's worth 30 minutes or so of your time. And if you have kids, it's even more worthwhile. You can let them go psycho nuts on the Island while you either leisurely stoll the area or just have a seat and people watch. If Aunt Polly's is open, you can even have a snack. One of my biggest reasons for liking it is that it feels so removed from everything else. You could almost believe you're really alone (at times) deep in the middle of Missouri during the times of Tom and Huck.
ed: I would have to say the main reason I don't go on it every time is that I go to Disneyland almost weekly (and to Tom Sawyer's Island once every few months), and up until recently, the two were quite similar, so I didn't feel the need. Now, however, with the pirates overlay at Disneyland, I'll probably be visiting the WDW version every time I go (and Disneyland's less than before).

We went on our very first trip, but have never returned. I think it is psychological though, on the first trip I wore impractical shoes and had the worst blisters ever. Whenever I think about Tom Sawyer's Island, all I picture is extremely painful feet.

I hit up the island about every other trip. It's something to do if you have extra time and is a good place to relax and maybe take some photos. The caves are very interesting and are not crowded usually. I used to go over there more often than now before Aunt Polly's place stopped serving real food. I used to love to eat over there.

I've been going to Disneyland since I was 4 with my family and have gone an average of three times a year for every year of my life (some years none, others multiple times). I've been to WDW 4 times and at 26 years of age thats about 82 trips to a Disney Theme Park of some kind and have never stepped foot on Tom Sawyer Island.....probably never will......never peaked my interest.

Our last trip was our 9th to the parks but only our first to Tom Sawyer Island. Definatly one of those had we known it was this much fun we would have done it earlier bits. The caves are great. Cool surprise in one that I don't want to give away. And if you're a big guy like me there's the extra thrill of being trapped in the dark and thinking "OK, is THIS the narrow passage that I'm too big to get through and I get stuck down here?" The fort was OK, a few too many kids letting off steam the time we went. But hey, animatronic chickens and an animatronic horse's rear end. Animatonics rock even when they're incredibly basic!! Till the Pirates overlay it's one of those places that doesn't change from year to year. So had we visited on our first trip it would have been the same as what we saw on the 8th trip. But then we still felt like we missed out by not going earlier.

I also miss when Aunt Polly's had real food. that was my favorite spot to grab lunch.

I'm not sure why everyone assumes WDW will get the Pirates overlay. In DL the island is in close proximity to the PotC. In WDW they're in completely diferent lands!

I go to the island eery once in awhile. It is a good place to relax a little bit and get away from the crowds.

I enjoy walking around the island and the caves.

Great place to take pictures of the haunted mansion and Big Thunder too.

Its not an exciting place. Dont expect much, younger kids love it though.

I went for the 1st time that I can remember last trip. Unless I went as a kid that would be the 1st time in 20 visits. Missing out ? Eh, not really. The caves and the fort are o.k. I'll go on my next trips if I get there early until I find a paintbrush.

yeah, in all my years, i have never been on it either.

but, then again...i never did body wars either. am i really missing anything?

Well, Body Wars is one of the attractions that many people might not be able to handle due to the nature of the ride. Tom Sawyer Island is just a "place" to visit.

I do think I get what you are saying though.

A better comparison might be I've never visited France at EPCOT, am I missing out?

We visited TSI for the first time this past February. I wasn't all that impressed, but DS11 [now 12] loved it. I found the caves too dark and small, I'm a tall man with broad shoulders and often had to turn sideways to get through in spots. I was worried I'd bump my head because I couldn't see where the ceiling was or if there even was one.

I'd go back with DS, but not be bothered if I were solo [not that that'll ever happen].

I Love TSI

We've been on there multiple times. Not every time, because I think it would get boring if you did. We love the serenity over there and when we are really feeling rushed, we always stop! We went with a few cousins one trip and had more fun than most of the rides (I mean adults). We were like little kids in the caves. We scared each other and made noises and had a blast. The more the merrier! :sohappy:
