Trip Report 10 days goes too fast in Disney World! July Trip Report

So.. I debated back and forth on whether or not I should write a trip report! Bringing back all my Disney memories is bittersweet, I wish I was still there! However, I do not want to forget anything about my wonderful, amazing trip so here goes! Hope you enjoy :)

I went to Disney from July 14-23, got stuck in Orlando so we didn't really leave until the 24th, with my best friend. This is my fourth trip to Disney and this was her probably 14th, haha. We had never been on vacation together, but we are inseparable at home, so we knew we'd have no problems!! I'm an Ariel lover, Disney World obsessed fan, who comes on these forums WAY TOO MUCH :) My name's Nicole and the girl with the brown hair is my best friend! :) Her favorite princess is Aurora, and is pretty upset there isn't a sleeping beauty ride, or show, or really anything in Disney World! We had tons of plans, we wanted to do the cupcake challenge, where you eat a different cupcake everyday, we wanted to drink around the world, we had a ton of things on our must do lists. Disney here we come!

Day One:

Our flight to Disney was at 6:00 AM from Newark so we had to be at the airport around 4 AM! We TRIED to go to sleep early, but all our adrenaline and excitement made that impossible! Finally around 10 PM we fell asleep, and set our alarms for 3:15 AM to go to the airport. When my alarm went off, I was a little cranky and wondered why we picked such an early flight, but then the excitement of going to Disney World crept up, and I was fully awake.

I'm the blonde!

Our flight there was super fast, and we arrived at 8:40 AM. We planned this right! We'd have a full day!! Off it was to find the magical express, did I mention, my friend and I are directionally challenged.
We went all the way downstairs and saw a bunch of Disney cruise buses only to find out we were on the wrong side of the airport, the magical express in on the B side just so everyone knows :) Back up the stairs and off to the other side we went.

We found the magical express area right away, and since it was early, it wasn't crowded at all! I remember when I went to Disney in November the lines being super long, but the lines were really short when we arrived! We hopped right on the bus, and we were off! Driving through the Walt Disney World sign gave me goosebumps, I could not believe I was really here! My level of excitement increased with each big purple sign with Mickey ears on top we passed.

Stop one was Old Key West Resort, stop two was Saratoga Springs, and stop three was our new home, Port Orleans French Quarter! I had never stayed here before, but just seeing the signs saying "Welcome Home" made me all teary-eyed. I'm such a Disney sap.

We checked in immediately, there was no lines at all, and since I had done the online check in, our room was ready! We were in building 4, room 4309, near the bus stop and food court. We had a garden view, and the room was so pretty! We couldn't have asked for a better room!

We quickly unpacked our carry-ons since our luggage hadn't arrived yet, and then began exploring! We each packed all our headwear in our carry-ons, so for our very first day we decided to wear matching minnie-ears. While we unpacked, we watched Stacey! What kind of Disney trip is it if you don't watch her must dos! Unt pretzel, unt beer!

We walked along the Sassagoula River, checked out the pool area, and checked out the food court. This resort is BEAUTIFUL. It's small and easy to get around, and the landscapers were even the friendliest people. They offered to take our picture in front of the fountain. Thanks again!

After we made our way full circle around our resort, it was off to Magic Kingdom! It was around 1130 AM when we hopped on the first Disney bus to the parks! Hearing the themed music, where the horns are blaring to welcome you to the Magic Kingdom, made me instantly emotional! We put our key to world card up to the new Mickey turnstiles, watched Mickey light up green, and were inside! AHHHH!!!

We hurriedly picked up our photopass and continued on. That first walk down main street is still a blur in my mind. As soon as I saw that castle, I realized I was truly here, my happiest place on earth. The tears started welling up in my eyes, I could not believe it! After months of visiting these forums and looking at everyone's pictures, it was finally my turn! I was so happy and overwhelmed and then BAM the "move it, shake it, celebrate it" parade started going on. I swear it's like they were celebrating our arrival :) We both were laughing and dancing, and waving at every character that passed by. It was the best entrance I've ever had.

We couldn't decide what we wanted to do first, we had no plan! So we started wandering! We took as many photopass pictures and we could, and then decided to head to new fantasyland. We both had last visited in 2011, so we were excited! On the way, we saw a Tiana, and there wasn't a line, so we had to meet her right away! She was extremely nice, and really pretty!

New fantasyland did not live up to my expectations, I guess because the huge mine train is in the middle of everything. It kind of takes away from the whole immersive experience. I think I may have rathered they open everything up at once, instead of in stages. Don't get me wrong, all the detailing in this area of the park is one the reasons I love Disney World so much.. they truly go that extra mile.

I meant the Lion King Show, of course ... I am still learning how to respond on these threads. I keep hearing great things about Boma ... we will definitely have to check it out on one of our trips! I do wonder why you had to go to DTD to check for stuffed animals -- I would have thought that AKL would have had a HUGE selection to choose from in their hotel store. As for that fire on the patio, I would have shamelessly planted myself right next to it! It looked so inviting!

If you are looking to eat at AKL I would definitely recommend boma! I was a little leery on trying African cuisine but they have a really nice spread so you will not go hungry! You can fill your plate and try what you want!

The fire looked so cozy, I wanted to grab a quilt and curl up next to it with a hot chocolate! Oh the irony... Haha!!

We didn't find any animals to hug we liked at AKL.. We thought dtd would have more of a selection.. Tune in to see who we got later on!!

Thanks for reading :)

Glad you tried Boma. I often tell less adventurous people here to try it. Every so often we get people here who want to eat hot dogs and chicken fingers, and you know, there is a kaleidoscope of flavor. Going to a buffet like Boma is a great way to mix the familiar and exotic together in a palatable way.

Looks like you both had a great time! Can't wait to read/see the rest

This is going to sound ridiculous...but thank you for posting Pocohantas' shoes.:geek: We saw her back in Nov, which was the first time I'd ever had a chance to see her close up in the parks... and she was wearing a pair of mukluk boots. We had this great debate over it and whether or not it was just winter footwear. I win! :D

Love the drink you had at Boma...I'm going to need to find one of those! Also loving the AKL pics

Day 3

Epcot Day!! Some days, depending on my mood, if you ask me what my favorite park is.. it may be Epcot. I love the World Showcase and could spend forever just roaming and looking at all the beautiful architecture. Future world is also incredibly fun, and I love how different the front vs the back of the park truly is. It really is like going to two differently themed parks in one!

Again we were up early and on the bus, ready for a fun filled day at Epcot!

We decided instead of doing the new Test Track right away, we'd concentrate on the other attractions, and see if we could get a fastpass for it later in the day or on another day altogether. We headed straight for the land!

Soarin' is my favorite ride at Epcot.. I know it always get a bad rap and people in California don't understand the mass appeal, but I freakin' love Soarin'! Those winds blowing through your hair, the citrus smell of oranges, the feeling you get when when you pick up your feet so they don't touch the river water! Ahh.. it gets me every time! We grabbed fastpasses and saw the wait time was only 10 minutes so we quickly got in line! We rode once, got off and went to living with the land.. love this attraction as well!

Then we decided before we soared to California again, we better get something to eat! Cupcake number three! We split a carrot cake cupcake and a bagel from Sunshine Seasons.. The carrot cake cupcake was moist and very yummy, but it couldn't quite measure up to the elephant from yesterday! I also had the caramel iced coffee.. I really enjoyed this. I hate the taste of actual coffee and this was sweet enough that I didn't have to put 10 sugars and half and half in. It was really refreshing too, and woke me up!

After being high in the skies, we decided to switch it up and it was time to go underwater to the seas!

I have never been to the seas when it was "the living seas" so I really can't compare or miss what it once was. I do enjoy the nemo feel, and the kid friendly atmosphere.. I guess I can't miss what I never had.
We hopped in our clamobile and set off to find nemo!

After we found him, we looked around at all the aquariums.. you could spend a whole day in there if you wanted too!

Turtle talk with Crush was just starting.. I had never done this before and my friend told me it was more for kids, but I wanted to try it out anyway! It was really cute! The kids in our show were pretty shy and didn't ask too many questions, but Crush still made the show entertaining. And Dory stopped by for a visit! I could see how these shows can become hysterical.. kids do say the darnest things! We had fun and I'm glad I did it!

We continued looking around the seas.. we stayed her for awhile!

I thought the seahorse fact was soooo cute.. no wonder why I love so much! Melts my heart into oogey-gooey pieces! We then listened to a speaker on manatees, I was really interested in this because back in college I had to write a paper on them. I remember just reading my research and crying because a lot of them get run over by boats and the propellers just dig into them.. I read a story about one man who was doing it for enjoyment.. ahh it makes me sick! I'm glad Disney rescues these helpless creatures and gives them a second chance!

After our fill of the seas we were off again, my friend was on a mission to make me fall in love with figment. Can you believe in my past three trips I had never been on journey into imagination? Only dreaded captain Eo had I experienced before! We stopped for some pictures on the way, and a big joke of ours during the rest of our vacation was that I love Oarin' because I blocked the S in Soarin' when I stood by the sign! Nicole loves to oar! Haha.. still makes me chuckle!

Off we headed to the imagination pavilion, a pavilion that really needs more love!

We walked on to figment's ride.. and I fell instantly in love! He's too cute! I can't imagine how smitten I would be if I had rode the original! I had the imagination song in my head for the rest of the day, heck the rest of the trip!

We had such a great time messing around with all the things you could do! My friend broke out her dancing skills and made figment play that funky music up on the screen. We jumped on lighted blocks that also played music, made our own version of figment and e-mailed him/her/it back home, and entertained probably everyone inside. Some guy told us he wanted to film us and put it on youtube, that this is what everyone needs to act like on vacation. Hey, it's fun in there!

I am now a figment lover! We were hungry after showcasing our dancing skills at imagination, so we quickly debated on where to have lunch! Should we stay in future world or venture off into the countries? We both have been on a mexican style food kick lately, so we finally agreed to go to Mexico and eat at the La Cantina Restaurant on the water!

Off we trekked!

Let me just start this with OH MY GOD. SO GOOD! I enjoyed my meal here so much! I had the beef tacos and churritos as my dessert.. yum yum YUM!! And to top it off, a mixed berry margarita! It's five o'clock somewhere right!
My friend had the cheese empanadas and the churritos as well.. mmmmm!

Flame tree BBQ was my all time favorite quick serve, but I think la cantina is giving it a run for it's money! It was sooo good! And filling! My mouth is watering looking at my pictures. Why can't I live closer to Epcot? WHY OH WHY?!

It started drizzling at this point, so we ate slowly and debated what to do next. After our very wet day in AK yesterday, we decided to go back to the room and chill for a bit.. we were still pretty sleep deprived! It was a good idea because we would be back to Epcot later for dinner and wanted to look nice and pretty! We stopped for some photopass pictures on the way out! They are kind of cool with the dark clouds looming in the background.

Nap time for the princesses!

Loving the trip report! You two look like you are having just the best time. Can't wait to read more and see some more pictures. We did BOG on our trip in June and really enjoyed it. We also wanted to try something new and hit Boma. It was amazing. There was some stuff I didn't like but trying different things is good. We would recommend both restaurants to people.

Boma was fun! There was some stuff I didn't really like either, but it was nice to be able to try food I would never otherwise order.. next time I think I'll try and go for breakfast because I love AKL and am too scared to try Jiko and Sanaa!
