I don't understand the point in using bugs to terrify kids instead of telling a more interesting story about how bugs really are cool, showing off how cool they can be.

It did both. And was hilarious.

To be fair, Zootopia as an IP is basically the textbook example of what the creators said doesn't belong in Animal Kingdom. That being said, this tucked-away outcome is way better than the original alternative, Tough to Be a Bug was indeed tired, and the quality of the show could very well be good even if Zootopia was an especially poor IP choice.

At the same time … sometimes the creators may not always be right. They have their opinion, others have their. It’s all very subjective.

Yeah, but regardless of Rohde's opinion, almost nothing about the Zootopia IP is a good fit for Animal Kingdom. Indy and Encanto aren't exactly the best fits either, but it's easier to make them work in the park than Zootopia.

That said, as @James Alucobond said, if they were determined to force Zootopia in a park where it doesn't belong, this is the best solution. It keeps them hidden from the park and is vastly superior to cloning the Zootopia ride/land.
