That's a big part of the current rising cases. For the most part, people are going back to pre-Covid behaviors, or darn close. I'm an attorney in New York -- Courts have had very limited in-person appearances for the last 18 months, everything over zoom. Despite the increasing cases, things are...

Honestly, not so easy to predict the effect. Too many moving parts. Let's look at price, plus guest satisfaction for the most the line-skip user, and the pure standby user. So, let's start with a system with no line-skipping system, at all. This is the price baseline, and let's call the guest...

No. The CDC numbers reflect positive Covid tests. Having the flu does not trigger a positive Covid test. Flu cases decreased as Covid precautions also reduces incidences of the flu. Mask wearing reduces the flu!

As I said earlier, arms out for boosters: Top U.S. infectious disease official Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Tuesday the vast majority of Americans who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 should receive a booster shot, and that an additional dose could eventually become the country's standard for...

“Americans who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus should get booster shots ahead of a winter spike that could be “dangerous” due to the rampant spread of the virus among the unvaccinated, said Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert.”...

Yes. But many scientists were saying that. But the media and politicians have difficulty with nuance. In fact, look at my own old posts on the board. Certain people attacked me when I suggested any imperfection of the vaccines, discussed the continuing role of breakthrough infections, waning...

The messaging on boosters has been awful. First, a lot of coverage of scientists talking outside of strict medical benefit of boosters. While it's been pretty clear for a while that boosters are medically helpful, there was a lot of, "scientists aren't sure whether boosters are necessary." And...

I’d be very surprised if they weren’t doing regular testing of the study participants. It’s how every former Pfizer study worked.

Impossible to analyze along those lines because it would be dependent of the amount of community spread. For example… if you’re vaccinated and only exposed to the virus 1 time per year, maybe there is a 1 in a million chance of getting infected and seriously ill. But if you’re exposed to 100...

It’s comparing the number of boosted breakthrough cases vs unboosted cases. so without booster— 100 cases. With booster-5 cases. Would be 95% efficacy compared to unboosted.

Exactly why I said it’s multi-factorial. There are lots of other factors I didn’t discuss, many factors still unknown.

The Spanish Flu pandemic never really ended. It mutated, and became some of the more common flus we see today.

These things are multi-factorial. Certainly, the "natural curve" is part of the equation. But note the Israel curve is steeper: And something being missed in those numbers, Israel does a LOT more testing than Florida. So Israel's numbers include far more low symptom/asymptomatic cases than the...

While I won't pretend to know the exact numbers, your analysis is solid. Totally correct -- the added effect of masks on top of vaccination would indeed be minor. But I still disagree with your conclusion -- When spread is high, I believe we should be willing to accept rather minor...

Sadly, there has always been a misunderstanding about vaccination rate as it related to herd immunity. If you need 80% population immunity for herd immunity, for example, then you would need 80% of the population vaccinated with a 100% effective vaccine. But the vaccines are not 100% effective...

I've been very clear in separating my statements of opinion from statements of fact. The evidence continues to grow in support of vaccine boosters for all adults: "Covid vaccine booster shots for all adults could be here by Thanksgiving — and new data says you should get one immediately"...

That calculus has changed, says Dr. Colleen Kelley, an associate professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine. The virus that causes Covid continues to spread, due largely to millions of people who remain unvaccinated, and vaccine protection...
