You are right about there being a lack of things to do. MGM opened to record crowds and the executives of the park were struggling to try and find things to open in a hurry. That is why opening things like NY St. and Mickey Ave. to the public were pushed through in a hurry.

Nope they are actually from a script of a movie that John Wayne never made. The lines are just similar to something he would of said in the movies he was in.

Actually I read somewhere that the actual animatronic figure of John Wayne is not from any particular movie and the lines aren't even anything he said in a film. Disney had to make up what he said because his estate would not let them quote anything from a film he was in.

No the movies in the preshow are the same as they have always been unfortunately.
