Different patent from this one, maybe, if they were to do a simulator ride for this park.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

Also known by team members as a "Technical Rehearsal", soft openings are where the employees and the ride tech itself are tested with real guests in the park to get it running smoothly before the ride is officially open. Soft opens usually happen anywhere from a few weeks to even a couple months...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

The media preview is June 22-24 I believe, so the official grand opening won't be until then. I expect "technical rehearsals" to start a few weeks prior, but most folks are convinced they'll start in the beginning of May.

I finally got a chance to see a vehicle test in action! And caught it on video too. I also got video of the food stand almost ready for guests. My guess is most of the construction walls will come down and the stands will open long before the ride actually does. And I saw crew hanging hair-like...

I would love that, but the only gift shop we know about will be an outdoor stand near the exit... However I have heard there is a surprise for us in the final scene, which is after unload on your way out of the building... so fingers crossed!

I got some video of the new Kong merchandise and while I was there checked out the construction site and they were testing the torches by the entrance! Very cool. Everything looks amazing and it's great that they're adding more theatrical lighting throughout the area. Can't wait to see it at...

Oh, and the vehicles use crab steering, so while large they can actually fit into some tight spaces and make tight turns.

Well, the big scene in IOA's version is more akin to the big screen scene in Gringott's and not the long tunnel of Hollywood's 360. Since we only have one car's worth of tram, each scene doesn't need to be a long tunnel of screens. The building is about the same size as Gringot's, so you can see...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

Well, more than extra theming, as we already know we will have five different characters to be the drivers, and each with their own backstory, which adds more story to the ride over Hollywood. The ride vehicles are programed and trackless. The ride scenes will have several stops with motion...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

My take on it is animatronic for the load platform (since we'll see the driver from profile as we get in) and the outdoor scene only, then projection for when the vehicle goes inside and we put our glasses on (when it could be more believable looking). That way, when the driver is...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

Orlando Informer is reporting that the drivers will be animatronic: West revealed that there will be five different drivers of the ride vehicles. Sources familiar with the attraction tell Orlando Informer these will be audio animatronics behind a glass panel. Each character will have their...

Skull Island: Reign of Kong from construction to opening

Hiya all! Got a new video and blog post. The video shows some of the fire effects in action. I only caught it for a few seconds before they turned it off though. I also got some footage of the interior "blackout" doors opening and shutting on the temple gate. Check it out along with some of the...

Here are some pictures from my recent visit. The place is feeling more and more cohesive every time I see it, especially now with the Kong arch painted. Plus, they painted the left-side of the building, facing the employee access road, so that blends in better too. You can see lots of more...

It's not going to be all screens like some of the other 3D attractions. Instead it will have animatronics and some full sets. Screens will be used to expand backgrounds for the first few scenes inside, and mostly for the finale sequence (dome screen). We'll still have a full size Kong AA at one...

Got some new pics of the area today. I wasn't able to visit for a few weeks and it is just amazing what can change in 3 weeks! Here's some of my pics from today, and more are posted here! These posts on top of the temple are what the human sacrifice is tied to in the older Kong films: The...
