My Issue With Themed Lands Built Around Franchises

Star Wars and Marvel ARE franchises. Regardless of their future popularity, both are solid bets. Toy Story was a Pixar thing, not Disney; but is also a solid bet. Avatar is NOT a franchise but they are clearly trying to build it into one.

    Math on DVC Resales

It's 15 extra years worth of a contract! Why wouldn't someone value that? Even if you decided to not leverage the last 15 years, you could pay the dues and then turn a profit by renting out the points. I fully understand that BC is a highly sought after resort, but if someone values the...

    Math on DVC Resales

BCVs sell for ~$140/pt resale. I don't know if you can talk Disney down on their prices, but it "might" be conceivable to get a retail price somewhere around the $140 mark. If so, then it might make sense to buy directly from Disney. But my guess is, if one is willing to buy BCVs with only 24...

    FOP sick bag

I couldn't agree more. Yes, FoP and Soarin' both utilize IMAX, but Soarin' leverages heights with the feeling of being off the ground; while FoP leverages motion simulation with 3D 'in your face' effects.

    FOP sick bag

I don't think FJ is a good comparison to FoP. FoP is more comparable to The Simpsons Ride.....big IMAX screen, motion simulated vessel. In my experience, FJ was more intense than FoP. I handled both but FJ left me feeling queasy all day. FoP didn't leave any lasting impact, but I did close my...

    Ethics / Loopholes

It's called 'speaking up'! You won't be alone in fingering the guilty party(ies). The driver will side with the mob.

    Math on DVC Resales

I have no clue where you are looking, but the price increase is astronomical when purchasing direct. DVC advertises $182/pt. Granted, this is for the newest resorts, but they aren't going to drop the price very much for other resorts. You can get SS for $100/pt resale. And while I'm not fully...

My Issue With Themed Lands Built Around Franchises

No, not in the slightest. To re-theme a land takes time, money and closure of the land. Disney is not in the business of wasting money.

Pay more, get less. When does it end?

I'm curious, how close were they to executing on this? This seems like a completely empty threat. $18 billion from it's Parks and Resorts entity....and they are going to sell it?!

    Fastpass Plus and Wait Times

FP+ can definitely screw-up the wait times. If a ride is closed for any substantial amount of time, the park must honor those FP tickets, thus pushing the wait time to insane levels once the ride reopens. Also, FP+ has completely screwed-up the relationship between how many people are currently...

    Ethics / Loopholes

FPs can be abused to no end. Just go to the front desk, make up a story and they'll usually be happy to issue you a "master" FP for any park. Or if anything should go wrong, complaints to the front desk will usually be compensated with extra FPs.

My Issue With Themed Lands Built Around Franchises

I hate this also. Unfortunately, land design and theming has little to no residual overhead compared to a ride. Same idea with the gondolas. Each car will have no electricity and not be occupied by an employee. Much cheaper to operate compared to the monorail or buses.

Pay more, get less. When does it end?

Pleasure Island....like nothing I've ever experienced. Disney Springs....stream-lined generic commerce.

My Issue With Themed Lands Built Around Franchises

But you're glossing over the fact that theming/ branding is appealing to a certain portion of visitors. It doesn't need to be a "banshee" ride. FoP, the ride itself, can be ported over many other brands. The execution of Pandora (the land) will draw interest. However, Avatar, the franchise...

What's your maximum on ticket prices? An unscientific poll...

Yes, ticket prices have gone up because demand has gone up. Again, Economics 101.

What's your maximum on ticket prices? An unscientific poll...

Your point is vague and confusing, at best. You're stating generalities on an entire industry (Broadway), but mentioning only popular and premium-based shows as justification. Hamilton tickets will continue to go up in price just enough to maximum profit while helping to retaining demand. They...

My Issue With Themed Lands Built Around Franchises

Why have ANY Avatar branding then? Just build a generic land with individually-branded rides. You even stated:

What's your maximum on ticket prices? An unscientific poll...

Yes, the popular shows remain. The unpopular shows close. They don't raise the ticket prices on unpopular shows...economics 101. I can get Wicked tickets next Monday for $99, straight from broadway.com.

What's your maximum on ticket prices? An unscientific poll...

You're quoting the most popular shows! Clearly, they raise prices because the demand is there! They'll stop raising ticket prices once the demand lessens. No business ever raised ticket prices to makeup for a lack of demand! Where are you getting this from?!
