Transportation to Universal (not my idea!)

We are coming down to WDW in December & bringing friends. My son's girlfriend is a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and wants to go to Universal to do the Harry Potter area. And since he wants to make her happy, we'll do it. But I ABSOLUTELY refuse to drive there!! What is the best way to get from OKW...

    take several pairs of shoes

I learned this the hard way. The first year I went to DW, I only took 1 pair of shoes. My sister took every pair she owned. After the 2nd day, I had blisters on 6 out of 10 toes!! I started wearing her shoes to change up. Bandaids are so much better than those blister pads. Before my 2nd...

    Ideas to Surprise Kids

This may be hard for younger ones, but one year, my sister & I surprised my mom & stepdad with a trip. We were having a cookout at their house, and we said "let's play a game to keep the kids contained". It was basically "Hangman", but we used Mickey head silhouettes, with each letter on the...

    Losing a Disney loved one

An update on my Original post: We have decided to go ahead and take the kids to WDW in December as originally planned. We used our vacation points to book a trip to Aulani as a surprise to dad, BUT, he started talking about hating to fly, no way he'd get on a plane, etc, and this was BEFORE we...

Is the dining plan worth it?

we always use the DDP for 2 reasons: we don't have to worry with cash or other form of payment once we are at WDW. We just give them our room key and it's deducted. The second reason is that this is the ONLY way I will do Cinderella's Royal Table & Hoop Dee Doo. Both of those take 2 credits...

    Talk me into it

We bought into Bay Lake Tower earlier last year. Our intention was to use it yearly for WDW trips every year instead of going every two years like we had been doing. However, our first trip using DVC was to Washington, DC when my son was selected to attend a conference there. Since I had...

Flavored Cola at 50's Prime Time

When we went in 2009, my son's best friend kept asking for refills of his coke. She ended up bringing him 5 or 6 glasses. One of them was a chocolate coke. My son LOVED it. I thought it looked gross. It looked like a chocolate malt that had been left out for a few days. But, like I said...

When is the best time to go?

LOVE going in October, just avoid the weekend that the PGA golf tournament is there. The weather was mild, slightly cool in the mornings & evenings, but after 9:00 or 10:00, we didn't need any jackets. We also went the 3rd week of December and the crowds were light until it got to be about...

    Question for December travelers!

We've been at WDW in Dec. 2006. Mornings & evenings were cool, but by 10:00 we didn't need our lightweight jackets anymore. At Illuminations at EPCOT, it was very cold sitting by the water. We thought it was too cool to do a water park, but the kids did swim at the hotel pool. The water is...

    Partial payments online?

I know when I've booked packages, I always call to reserve, but I will make my payments online. I've never had a problem doing it online. They did take partial payments. The minimum payment was $20, but again, I always book packages. I don't know if that would make a difference.

Go Behind the Magic at Aulani with Samantha Brown

I know it's still under construction, but I would have liked to have seen more of the rooms and restaurants, but I already booked a trip this December!!! The water/pool area looks AWESOME!! The whole resort looks great. Can't wait for December!!!

The Best Surprise You Have Pulled Off

In 2004, my sister & I decided to surprise our mom & stepdad with a trip to WDW. I can't remember why, but the entire family was at mom's house for a meal, and we decided to do a game to "reveal" the trip. It was kinda like "Hangman". They enlisted the kids to help them guess. When one of...

    Any First Night Dining TRADITIONS?

We always kick off our stay with dinner at Chef Mickey's then ride the monorail over to Magic Kingdom to watch the parade & fireworks. We didn't start out making this a tradition, but after checking into our hotel for the stay, it's just a cool way to meet the characters without a lot of rush.

    Inheriting DVC Points

Just FYI, on another note: If you use DVC OUTSIDE of Disney, there is usually a charge when you check in. My son had a conference in Washington, DC. My dad let us use his points for the trip. When my sister & I checked in, we were asked for a security deposit of $1000. We were not expecting...

    What to give Cast Members?

We are "tippers". For Mousekeeping, we usually leave $1 per person in our room, plus $1 or $2 extra, esp. if we have our nieces with us. Our room can be chaotic. We also put the tip in a nice Thank You card with Mousekeeping written on it, so they know it is theirs. One year, we stayed at...

    Losing a Disney loved one

To explain the complications as best I can, she caught the flu from her kids, went to the doctor, got medicine for it, overnight it turned into pneumonia. MIL found her passed out on her bedroom floor & she was rushed to ER by ambulance. she contracted staph while in hospital. Was...

    Losing a Disney loved one

Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers. It was a very hard February. We were supposed to go to WDW in December. That was her favorite time of year to go. I knew that we would not be able to handle going at Christmas without her. The kids are doing pretty good. It's us adults not...
