    A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

I’m going to have to strongly disagree with most of the posters here... My Great Grandma who is in her 90s can sometimes say things that are culturally insensitive. I understand why. She grew up in another time and even if I spent weeks with her, she just wouldn’t GET IT. She isn’t a bad...

    Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

@WDW1974 once described the then massive expanse of land that would become Star Wars Land and the new Rivers of America as a "tumor" growing on the back of the park. There can be no more succinct description of this new "port." But before I talk about my feelings about this project, I want to...

    Is Walt Disney Imagineering dead?

Mystic Manor is wonderful. Fans of classic Disney Dark rides will love it. It’s very intimate in scale. It never should have been integrated with Sea, but beyond that the art style is fun. Let’s remember, the Audio Animotronics in Pirates and Haunted Mansion are both cartoony. Anyone that is...

    A Spirited Valentine ...

Thoughts on Disney's Animal Kingdom. 1) Pandora: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/general-pandora-and-valley-of-moara-reviews-comments-and-questions.927205/page-4#post-7765529 2) The land seems to be helping attendance. The park was more crowded. The park seems more alive. That's great. 3)...

General Pandora and Valley of Mo'ara reviews, comments and questions

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I'm with you two. Flight of Passage is just another simulater Soarin' type attraction, just like Pirates of the Carribean Battle for the Sunken Treasure is just another it's a small world. The experience is iterative. It's also much much better than its...

General Pandora and Valley of Mo'ara reviews, comments and questions

Thank you! You summed up exactly how I feel. I have seen a few people who can't find any good in the land. I'd be lying (really lying) if I said something like that. I'd also be lying if I said I was totally fine with everything. It's complicated. I also hope I got across that I really really...

General Pandora and Valley of Mo'ara reviews, comments and questions

Hey @BrianLo and @Rteetz! For the last several years, we have watched as floating mountains took shape. We have witnessed the testing of blue lights and captivating projections. Disney's Animal Kingdom guests have eagerly awaited the arrival of Pandora- The World of Avatar. The initial...

Pandora, more or less of a success than you predicted?

I would agree with you. The park needs much more. Nuanced differences. Story integration I knew was going to be a disaster since day one. Physical discontinuity, or a feeling that it didn't fit right in with the other lands surprised me. I'll drop my review tomorrow. It's gonna be flagship. ;)

Pandora, more or less of a success than you predicted?

On the macro it looks about how I was expecting. Feel and guest areas were below expectations. Integration with Disney's Animal Kingdom below expectations. River Journey slightly above expectations. Flight of Passage at expectation. Decent enough area. Could have been better. From a business...

    Volcano Bay

I think it's far too soon to decide the success of Tapu Tapu. The system is in its infancy, and things still need to be ironed out. If we were conducting an experiment on the potential of queueless water parks, we would first have to make sure all the variables were in place. At this point the...

New Disneyland Parking Garage and Transportation Hub

I'm not sure if you've seen this, but here's the entire Disneyland Eastern Gateway Project Presentation. It has in depth information about the entire project: http://www.anaheim.net/DocumentCenter/View/14099

Nintendo partnering with Universal to make attractions.

Ha, I should have popped over here sooner. I said pretty much the same thing over in the Spirited Thread yesterday night! @Mike S has said that he read there would be an exclusive attraction at the Orlando edition of Super Nintendo World. That could Bridge the gap and get Nintendo and SWE in...

Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disneyland does not authorize these large capital expenditures. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts under Bob Chapek directs the global strategy of the entire chain with supervision and accountability resting in Bob Iger and the Board of Directors. Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort may...

    A Spirited Valentine ...

Other thoughts on Nintendo... I think this land is going to be the most challenging undertaking Universal Creative has ever attempted. This land is gonna be weird. Really really weird. This is like Universal's Avatar. How the heck do you convincingly create floating mountains in a CGI world...

    A Spirited Valentine ...

The rumored timeline never made much sense. USJ's original press release mentioned only it "is targeted to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics." That seems like it wasn't going to ever be a 2019 opening. It could even be mid 2020 before we see it open, but that probably depends on how far...

2016 TEA Themed Entertainment Attendance Report

I feel like this was bound to happen. Really looking at that graph, I see a correction has taken place. There is now a strong number two player. The current division feels about right. Also for the people saying Disney likes attendance declines, don't be shocked if Iger is triumphantly sharing...

2016 TEA Themed Entertainment Attendance Report

Fascinating. In terms of attendance, the entire chain had a relatively rough year. Disneyland's decline was expected as the 60th began to wind down and the newness of the offerings wore off; in fact I remember reading that the decline was less than anticipated. The rest of the properties are a...

New Addition's To Disney's Animal Kingdom

Oh absolutely, but keep in mind that the Yeti is a part of the culture's understanding of nature. The Yeti, as Joe Rohde described it, is a metaphor for the untamed and wild aspects of nature to Himalayan cultures. It's a culture's way of making sense of the natural world and showing respect and...

New Addition's To Disney's Animal Kingdom

I don't think Jungle Book makes sense in the park narrative. While there could be debate, I don't believe the movies (definitely not the book) are set in the modern day. Asia is a modern day experience. It would be odd to place something from a century ago in a land about today. Furthermore, all...

New Addition's To Disney's Animal Kingdom

Keep in mind that Disney's Animal Kingdom happens exclusively in the first person. You are a character in the adventure, you don't passively watch the events. The dark ride you speak of would be a difficult concept to accomplish in practice while keeping the adventure about the guests...
