Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

I would say they generally make an exception for their live action properties like Star Wars and Marvel because they've positioned those franchises to be more teen/adult oriented. Never mind the fact that this ride system was designed to be more teed/adult oriented. And yes, not having tension...

The only reason it matters is because it throws out the excuse to not include Facilier because the ride takes place post movie. They easily could have came up with an excuse (have the dip drop take you into the Other Side) but they didn't. The reality is that Disney is afraid of making anything...

While it may look like Ray is in the ride, I have been told that this is in fact his identical twin Jay who was on temporary leave of absense when they were filming the original movie.

100%. There are a few evac videos with full lighting that show how much remains from Splash. Look at the sculpted grass they painted over brown to just blend in as dirt. Some of the rockwork they painted in to look like trees. Anything else was just covered with the tackiest display of fake...

So even with that said, where is the climax or falling action? There is nothing that happens to make the final celebration feel rewarding, and this has been a common complaint with the majority that rode the attraction. Perhaps if the critters were spread out, and you were gathering them into...

It’s less about story in a literal sense and more about “the journey” you go on through the ride. Splash followed “Freytag’s Pyramid”, the classic narrative template most of us probably learned in high school. Each section of the ride can roughly be attributed to each “step” of the pyramid. Each...

They should’ve done a “giant” figure of the snake character, hanging down from the rafters.

I don't like the retheme, but I will give you a few sentences of what I like about it. There's a particular audio detail in the ride version of "Going Down the Bayou" that I like; the owls hoot and the frogs croak to the tune of the song! That's a very old school Disney detail. I like that the...

I can accept FJ’s poor story and writing because it’s putting you in the middle of several iconic Harry Potter moments and has great placemaking. You get to fly through a castle, escape a dragon attack, float through a dark forest filled with giant spiders, and ward off demons in a dungeon. To...

Ideally, you would have Facilier at the base, and a mist projection 3/4 of the way up with one of the voodoo masks on it (think that one pirates effect but actually good this time). Then, just past the mist wall, you get the scene of Mama Odie fighting off the spirits and capturing Facilier's...

This ride needs more than a single animatronic to fix it. It needs far more interesting placemaking than "bayou" at night with spot lights.

I wish I got to experience it as well. Unfortunately I wasn't even a year old when it changed, and I wouldn't even make it out to Disneyland for another 13 years. Oh well. Glad I got to experience Critter Country at all.

Thank you!!! It's ridiculous how far people's standards have fallen.

I miss it too. But the atmosphere of the scene is different enough that I was able to convince myself I was in a different ride (as opposed to the fairly obvious gutted Splash vibe given off by all the other scenes).

I mean…if I may? Critter Country (the land rename that came about because of Splash) fit the Country Bears better than “Bayou Country”. The aesthetic of Splash also paired better with CBJ.

Definitely agree. The only parts at Disneyland that might be better are the Zydeco and lift hill scenes (and only marginally). A far cry from the two Splashes that felt almost completely different in every comparable scene. Though I preferred MK’s overall (it was my first, and it was how I...

The only scene I was able to take myself out of the Splash context was the party scene at the end. That lasts for all of 10 seconds before the unfavourable comparisons to Splash started back up once I hit the tunnel to where Brer Rabbit used to be.

Splash was able to have its cake and eat it too. It was lightning in a bottle. It told an easy to follow story that serviced the drops well AND had the cocktail party style vignettes for people not interested in the storyline. Everyone here agrees this attraction was amazing from a design...

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

This modern philosophy is why the new dark rides suck in comparison to the classics. They have it in their heads that every character needs to somehow be tied in with the story. That was never the case with Pirates, Mansion, Splash, Small World, or Spaceship Earth. Every animatronic character...
