    The Edison--details announced

It's sort of a smoothed-out late-period Art Deco. The original Art Deco architecture was a lot busier (hence the "decorated" term). For example: (From a Yesterland article on the architecture that inspired Disney-MGM). The Edison is more inspired by what followed Art Deco, the Moderne or...

New nighttime show 'Rivers of Light' confirmed to be coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

Here's my take. Judging by the videos, I think I will really enjoy this show. But I think the show has problems related to what I'll call build-up and context. Consider Journey of the Little Mermaid over at the Magic Kingdom. Although many have complaints about certain details, on the whole...

News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

@danlb_2000 , you've done great work, as always, ferreting out useful permits. I was wondering, if, as the original thread creator, you would add back the missing t in the thread title? Given how many sites are coming here to crib the scoops, we're likely to see mention of "transporation"...

You're right about that. The building is much larger than would be needed for the equivalent of a MK Skyway station. If it is a Skyway station, I have to assume that means the cars are much bigger, or there's substantial indoor queue space, or both.

There are multiple buildings being constructed in CBR in these permits. I thin you are referring to the elbow building in the NW section. There's a much larger building in the previously undeveloped SW section which presumably would be the CBR station.

I know that, but I haven't seen a PRT system based on cable cars. The PRT system you linked to uses electric cars on guided beamways, and while that's not exactly rail, it seems to present the same general profile as rail in terms of grade and curvature issues. We don't know enough about this...

News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

While I would love to see a PRT system, monorail addition, or light rail, if this is a transportation system (big if), then a Skyway is what fits the facts. Those elbow-shaped buildings make perfect sense for cable cars but your don't build rail systems with corners like that.

    DHS Permits

To be honest, you could see all kinds of unmagical air chillers and such on the roofs on the original Skyway. I think the magic of being up high, and for me personally, the war between my rational brain and my acrophobia, are enough of a distraction that park sightlines aren't an issue.

    DHS Permits

Let me just say that if this does turn out to be in preparation for a Skyway (I refuse to use a generic term like "gondola" when there's already a perfectly good Disneyfied name), it will raise my score for the Iger Era quite a bit, because this would be out of the Old Disney playbook--wonderful...

    DHS Permits

Gosh, when I made the Skyway joke, I was really joking. I didn't think that could possibly be the right answer. For the curious, the designated area outside the DHS entrance is plenty big enough for that purpose--here's a quick pasting of the Tomorrowland Skyway building there: Tomorrowland...

Anyone know what they did with the old Skyway cabs? I kid, I kid.

Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Okay, I'll bite. What are you referring to? 1992 was Splash Mountain's debut, which has a show building behind the berm--is that it? If we're talking about building an attraction in a space that was previously not used for attractions, though, I think there are more recent examples.

Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I could be wrong, but I don't think you would have greater union requirements than in the 70s and 80s. I remember the story of how slow the union carpeting crew was on the original build-out of the Contemporary, and how Disney eventually worked a deal where they could hire a non-union crew so...

AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

I don't think there's any light that needs to be shed. I, for one, always understood what the Dino-Rama area was supposed to be, but as I've said before, knowing that something is a detailed, loving recreation of a cheap roadside carnival still makes it a cheap roadside carnival. The backstory...

The photo is still on the other site. I think Tom just didn't want the picture posted here, since he and Steve are always fussin' and feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys. Lots of sites prefer you to link to their content rather than repost, which seems fair, but in this case linking can't happen.

Rumor Stitch's Great Escape Replacement— Don’t Hold Your Breath

In earlier plans for the space pavilion, the ride would have indeed just been the pre-show to the larger pavilion, only you weren't going to Mars, you were going to a space station--something like the original Living Seas concept but heading to space instead of underwater.

Planet Hollywood unveils redesign for Disney Springs

Clearly, it's supposed to be a restaurant now. The question is how much of a connection the observatory concept should have to the current appearance. If there aren't many nods to the supposed "previous use," it seems a bit of a waste. Lots of real-life reused spaces have more connections to...
