News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Sure. Like diverting most of the $17b allocated for WDW from attractions and new lands to DVC. That would maybe benefit shareholders in the short term and would be good ROI, but would be disastrous in the long term.

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

No one is saying that. We are saying that their presence will have a detrimental effect on the long term health of the company, and that it is the stated goal of the person backing both of them to break up the company. Sure. Anything is possible. But do you put someone up in a position of...

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

At best, maximizing for short term stock gains to make a hefty profit for themselves, at the expense of long term company health. At worst, aiding Perlmutter (who is their backer) at his goal of breaking up the company and taking control of a portion of it for himself.

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Cuts which all happened under the previous CEO. Look at the pattern - 2015-2020 - significant expansion at WDW. 2020-2022 - cuts with a different CEO, cancellations, no new development announced. Just a little over a year after Iger returned as CEO, it looks like they are starting...

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Barely. Ownership doesn't matter all that much. My wife once worked for Thomson Financial, part of Thomson corporation. Thomson bought out Reuters and changed the name to Thomson Reuters. Even though Thomson was the majority owner, within two years, almost all the Thomson people were out and...

MSEP ending at Disneyland on Sept 1, WDW return in 2023?

I'm fine with a bit more majestic than MSEP and PTN (although I have a soft spot for Baroque Hoedown), but I never could get past the idea that Spectro was a waltz, which is the antithesis of what a parade (musician/marching band experience speaking here) should be. You can also have magnetic...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

What? Where are you getting that from? The news has been reporting that Disney repeatedly tried to open negotiations with him and he refused.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

So here is where I think you are right. The case was a quagmire - CFTOD dragged its feet on discovery, and we were looking at a hearing on a motion for summary judgement later this year. There would likely be other motions after that, before even getting to trial. A trial at this point was...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Nothing in the court case that is the subject of this settlement went sideways. In fact, another interpretation was that depositions were about to start and DeSantis and the CFTOD didn't want certain things to become public record.

Any bets on whether Bridget fills out her term now that the board is poised to be more cooperative with Disney?

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

I don't agree that this represents a loss for Disney. They are looking to solidify their plans and the federal suit still is ongoing. If they get the development agreement they want, they win. If not, the federal suit goes on. Maybe this whole thing was a tactical way for Disney to get...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Just because that may be the case doesn't mean that DIsney didn't have incentive to settle. Disney has plans to develop and expand WDW in the next few years. The outcome of lawsuits are years away, and that can affect those development plans. If they can get development agreements that meet...

News The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors Extends Robert A. Iger’s Contract as CEO Through 2026

Also worth mentioning that the date Iger left was the date specified that he had to stick around until from the Fox acquisition. I actually think he was ready to retire in 2020... But out this plan in place so he could honor the fox contract, while moving his successor in place, and doing the...
