    Monorail Update January 2015

I'm sure @Figment2005 can provide more info, but those screens are for the new fire suppression system which replaces the previous fire detection system. The rear view monitors are located on the ceiling above the drivers' head.

Selfie sticks - is this a thing at WDW yet? Disney clarifies policy

Not many details yet, but senior park management is aware of attraction down times caused by these things, and are partnering with Security to discuss options, including confiscation at park entry.

Selfie sticks - is this a thing at WDW yet? Disney clarifies policy

You all should soon be seeing a lot less selfie sticks in the parks.

New Main Street U.S.A bypass to be built to address entry and exit congestion at the Magic Kingdom

This is true. I almost had my car towed from it one night years ago. Learned which spots not to park in pretty quick. I agree; it was embarrassing to watch Guests walk through that area. The new bypass, while nothing extravagant, is much less of a distraction from the Show than the previous...

New Main Street U.S.A bypass to be built to address entry and exit congestion at the Magic Kingdom

But at the same time, the bypass has been used for years now. It's just that now it's not walking through what is blatantly a backstage parking lot. The congestion at the Monorails, busses and ferries shouldn't increase/change just because the bypass is now slightly themed.

New Main Street U.S.A bypass to be built to address entry and exit congestion at the Magic Kingdom

I was back there quite a bit over the past week, and it is looking quite nice. Still not done, but getting there.

New traffic light system coming to World Drive near the Magic Kingdom auto plaza

Much needed (at least it's a step.) If I am coming through the MK toll plaza and I see the road in question is backed up, I try to go very slowly and allow a few cars/busses to pass through. I never fully stop though because then no one knows what's going on. The only intersection on property...

Classic WDW logo disappearing from monorails?

I was also told in training that E was for Engage. Of course the trainer could have been wrong as well haha. I would think, though, that it wouldn't mean Entry since you have to push E while closing the doors also.

Classic WDW logo disappearing from monorails?

A shop manager was about to trash one of those door panels one night, because it wasn't working right and they couldn't fix it. I had just brought a train to shop and was talking to him and he offered it to me. I still have it and it's one of my prized possessions from my time at Disney. It...

Classic WDW logo disappearing from monorails?

As Monorail_Red mentioned earlier - and I also was a witness to as well- during a period of time, two Monorials went for repainting. One came out of paint missing it's D logos, and the other came out of paint WITH it's D logos. So I disagree that it was/is a design decision. They are simply...

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

When did I say I was comparing anything?! I simply pointed out how clean it is! I figured people following a monorail post would enjoy seeing it, but it wasn't worthy of starting its own thread. And a lot of people may not realize a MKIV from a MKVI so I emphasized the difference. Sounds like...

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

I'd like to show this photo of the cab of MKIV Monorail Red. That's Mk4!! As in, in service from 1971-1991ish. Look how clean it is, 44 years after it began service. This photo was taken yesterday.

Looking for post about Disney's Contemporary 2nd Monorail Bay Lake Expansion

Back in the Monorail shop there is still a section of track on the switchboard labeled "Mediterrenean" along with Contemporary, TTC, Grand Floridian and Polynesian. It's between the TTC and Contemporary. I always thought it was interesting.

    MKIV Monorail Returns to WDW

This showed up at the Polynesian today.

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

Pilots are not allowed to go over 3mph (aka "walking speed") through any of the thrown switches. It is quite rough and loud inside the train as you go over them; lots of banging and bouncing. There's a screen that the pilots are supposed to watch as they go through which indicates "beam...

    Death at Driving Experience

I drove by the track yesterday leaving MK and the yellow Porsche they had as a car to drive was parked out front of the entrance tunnel to the track. They used to park a car or two out there to draw people's attention to the track. I thought it was strange to see it there yesterday...

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

I think there's enough current and former Monorial pilots on here to start a cool "Favorite Monorail Pilot Memories." There'd be some good stuff there. Like the time I used the emergency kit piece of string to pull up a box of Hess pizza that a manager bought me to the cab of my train, because...

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

I see. They just struck me as being a little sloppy in their execution of them but maybe I was thrown off by everything else haha. Threads like this make me so happy I at least got to experience driving guests in the cab. I loved it. It's a shame the cabs are always so messy now.

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

A friend I have who still works in Rails took me into a cab of a train the other day, I think it was Teal but maybe not, and it was a mess. Benches missing, same stains as the other photos, but the worst was the console with new switches added for the automation. It looks like someone just...

Appalling state of the monorail cabins

Agree 100%. Generally the fast drivers (I liked to consider myself one, getting sub-9 minute cycles during exits when other fast drivers were in Express trains) are the ones most comfortable with the trains and have the best feel for them. They were usually more confident on the radio as well...
