AAA benefits?

AAA room discounts depend on availability.

Not all AAA offices sell discounted tickets, and some only sell particular tickets with the discount (number of days, etc)

Be careful, some AAA agencies automatically add insurance onto your package; some also have a cancellation or change fee; be sure to ask before booking.

Always ask when you book your room if there are any AAA discounts available. Last year I used it to get a discount for a day outside of my pincode reservation. I tried for an AP discount on that one day when they were released and
1. there were no AP discounts for the YC,
2. the AAA discount was only $3 more than the AP discount. So it really saved me a good bit of money.

We also bought our MYW tickets online through the AAA website. By doing so we got one of their Diamond Parking Passes. It's a good perk if you can't score your tickets any cheaper (they have the standard Disney pricing, actually you are buying from Disney's ticket store, but you access it from AAA to get the parking pass). Basically it lets you park much closer to the gates, near the handicap parking.

I haven't done any of their packages....

If Disney is already doing some sort of promotion (i.e. free dining or the recent buy 4/get 3 deal), I've noticed that AAA does not give any further discount. It still does get you discounted tours and a percentage off at some restaurants in DTD.
AAA also used to offer some in-park perks like a club area in Tomorrowland (no longer there) and a private story reading by a Disney Princess (not sure if this still happens). Just be careful not to assume that booking through AAA is cheaper, because sometimes it is not.

That is correct. In truth, a fair number of AAA agents are not that savvy and may not get the reservation the way you want it, any adjustments need to be made through them and it can get messy.

But it is important to note that AAA discounts are different from AAA travel packages. You can call Disney directly or use an agent like Kingdom Konsultants and have them book with an AAA discount. It is only the packages that must be booked through AAA.

Unfortunately the "private" AAA lounges are no longer open. :(
