DAK 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

That TA was always meant to replace Dinoland even when Rohde himself drew up the prospectus almost two decades ago is surprising to me.
Not exactly what was said “many design attempts included” - would mean there were also design attempts that did not include.

I’m also guessing some or at least one of those designs included the Dino-Rama portion but not the rest of Dino land.

But yes, it’s always excellent to hear from Joe himself on any topic - and he wrote it excellently

I wonder if a version of this involved the Indy retheme that was rumored around 2017. I’m also curious what other IPs they were trying to work in back then since Encanto hadn’t released yet.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but is anyone else wondering why we have a specific "Tropical" Americas when we have general Africa and Asia? The previous two areas cover different parts like Savannah and Jungle for Africa or tropical and alpine for Asia, so why limit America to its tropical region?

Because they were worried about a political backlash to “Latin America.” Mexico and Columbia are on different continents.

I imagine it’s simply because there’s not a clean continental name for what they picked since it spans North and South America. To just say “Americas” would be to say “Western Hemisphereland”.

I like continuing the continent names, so my preference would be to stick with one continent for the land. (South America) I’m sure they could’ve come up with an adventure/backstory for Indy in Peru, Brazil, Chile, or Argentina instead of Mayan/Yucatán Peninsula. Heck, Raiders opens in Peru.

Probably Up and The Emperor's New Groove if I had to guess, I'm also guessing that's why Disney didn't greenlight it back then because of lack of IP's taking place in Central and South America that would've been strong selling points for the land. Hence that's probably why they chose Encanto to be the push for this land to happen as I defiantly can see that ride being advertised a lot for this land

I’ve long vouched for building TA in the expansion area between Kali and Planet Watch….I’m wondering what they’re saving that for.

Australia, perhaps? 🦘

Maybe, though I'm hoping it'll be Oceania and either the Arctics or North America (maybe Pacific Northwest or the Rocky Mountains)

I imagine the main driving factor for not going with only South America was to have the ability to include Coco in some capacity if needed

Oceania would be great, although I fear a Bluey ride could be shoved into that land. While I like Bluey, I don’t think a ride starring the characters would fit Animal Kingdom. With that being said I don’t think Bluey is an IP they see standing the test of time and maintaining popularity, so it might be safe.

Eh I think Bluey could stand the test of time, or at least until there is a need to replace it, but I could see them including Bluey in an Oceania land to knock off the Australia representation checkmark for it.

Could we please stop suggesting that they add Moana to Animal Kingdom too? I don't want it to get Splash Mountain retheme/Electric Mayhem Rock 'n' Roller Coastered into existence. Especially since they previously considered having it and Zootopia be the Dinoland replacement.
Guys: please explain how the hell Moana fits DAK. This is an even worse suggestion than people saying with a straight face that Black Panther should go into DAK.

We can have those IPs be elsewhere. It's okay.
I'm guessing it'll probably be there rather we like it or not (if you care for my opinion, Moana doesn't fit DAK, put it in Adventureland or somewhere else idk) assuming the IP Mandate is still around by the time a hypothetical Oceania themed land comes to DAK. Plus, besides Moana and Bluey to an extent, what IP could you really put in an Oceania land? The only two I can think of are Lilo and Stitch and Finding Nemo, Finding Nemo would work for DAK, Stitch on the other hand doesn't fit that well into DAK.

EDIT: Also Disney made a proposal for Moana and Zootopia rides to replace Dinoland USA before the final plan of Tropical Americas, so maybe they would've had an idea how Moana could connect to Animals or Nature?

It has been discussed, but, easy to miss with over eleven thousand posts...

By definition, a climate in the tropics is a tropical environment. There are snow capped mountains and sand-duney deserts between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. A rain forest is not the only "tropical climate." In fact, rain forests can be found outside the tropics.

"Tropical America" is not about rain forests. Encanto is located in the tropics and it is a mountainous forest and not a rain forest.

Funny as I was just working on my write up for a AK huge multi year expansion that had North America/Oceania up there (with a Pocohontas + Gravity Falls ride + new original show) and an Ice Age indoor land taking over a good portion of the ampitheater while keeping a river around it.

I know it's just your thoughts for something you'd enjoy, but there's basically a 0% chance they'd ever build a ride based on Gravity Falls (and Pocahontas is wildly unlikely too).

Well the only other "North American nature-related" IP they have is Brother Bear!

They could resurrect Camp Minnie Mickey and have the adored and beloved Humphrey the Bear as the mascot though! :^)
