Avatar (the movie) and its Sequels

I’m seeing it in 4DX. Between the not so stellar reviews and it being 3 hours and 15 minutes I feel like this is the right call. It’ll keep me up and I think all the flying / swimming scenes lend themselves to 4DX nicely

I got to admit, that was pretty awesome. It's pretty much the second half of the story started with Way of Water. It draws that story into a nice bow. It again was technically amazing and the story was the strongest of the three. Will it do as well as the other two movies? I don't think so.

I saw no reason to see this in 3D with a high frame rate.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Looking forward to seeing it soon…can’t wait!

Audience reviews on RT seem pretty stellar thus far. A few here have said it's the best of the 3.

Critics have lowered my expectations before only to be pleasantly surprised. Who knows. I'll find out personally sometime before the New Year.

Oh ya last I checked it was just critics reviews. Ya I’m not as hard on these types of movies. I know what to expect. I just want to be transported and feel something. But three hours 15 minutes is a long time so 4DX can help with that or maybe I’ll be sick of being tossed around haha

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing this yesterday. I’m biased as a huge Avatar fan but this was another incredible movie in the franchise. Probably the best one out of the 3, highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys this franchise.

As for Cameron’s “this can be the last one” comments so much is left unresolved at the end I really want to see how this wraps up. Hoping we get to see his entire vision.

Thought it was really neat that the new Avatar Movie (Fire and Ash) has a scene with a group called the Windtraders.

Seems even when Avatar land opened 8 years ago there was already a master plan for there being this group as part of the Avatar story, always assumed Wind Traders was just a random name for a gift shop.

That movie kind of makes things make sense. It's a familiar western.

Bring back intermissions and theatrical events again…. You could even sell more ad and trailer spots during the 15 minute breather

I watched Wicked and Zoo2 in India. They have intermissions and it was delightful.

I'm actually not sure why North American theatres are not interested in doing so. I think it would move significantly more concessions and they can sell ad time.

Intermissions mean less showing per day.

Just got back from seeing it. Not sure what year it is... time has lost all meaning and I do not know which episode of 'someone got kidnapped' we're in... pretty sure there were at least two separate kidnapping within a kidnapping in this. Also I don't think I've ever seen a single character go through so many switches of kill/don't kill/kill/don't kill by literally every other character in the entire film.

Having said that, I enjoyed it. Some great sequences in it. But BOY is it long and moves along at quite a quick pace in most parts. No time to breathe in this one.

I do hope Cameron goes all out and finishes the Avatar story.

Honestly - it was pretty good. Much more a Way of Water Part 2, as everyone has said. Clearly the three story arcs to his plan are Movie 1, 2/3 and 4/5.

I only found the HFR a problem when it should have been used. There were two scenes with Jack's Spider where he has at a stream side. Once with his siblings and once with Jake/Neytiri that I think the frame rate was normal and I almost felt like the scene was stuttering?

Goofy teenage Gen Z dialogue abounded. But I guess they are human teenagers and that's sort of the point. It's meant to be slightly cultural off-putting and set Neytiri off.

Jake and Neytiri are just the worst parents. I know that's their story arc, she's grieving, he's a militant ... and thank god they finally got their together. I was so worried Spider was having a villainous character arc and glad he's so good natured and the story arc was a bit milquetoast that Cameron didn't actually go there in the end.

The movie moved at a good clip and I do rather like all the characters. I like the hocus pocus that he was willing to go with. The windtraders do provide an interesting platform for another ride (or land). The volcanic region 100 years later likewise, since the character mentions it was previously forested and the eruption wiped it out. That said, they barely spent time there.

Varang is absolutely the star in this one.
I already love this character and I have yet to see the film, but wow I love eveything about what I have seen and heard up to this point.

The makeup design, the feathered headdress and costume design, the actress and how she moves, and those EYES!
Not to mention some amazing moments I am hearing about some interactions between her and Quarich.
Fantastic stuff.

Really looking forward to seeing this.
I have to wait until the Xmas season is officially over ( too busy at work right now..) but MAN, my 2026 is so starting off in Pandora!

Cannot wait to finally experience it in IMAX 3D.

Oona Chaplin's Varang stole the show and is easily the most entertaining character in all three films. I was disappointed she wasn't the main villain in this movie, but it's possible they were introducing her here for her to step up into the "Big Bad" role for Avatar 4.

While Quaritch will likely be in Avatar 4 and 5, I don't see him being the ultimate antagonist by the end. He'll probably have somewhat of a redemption arc. Not becoming fully blown good guy, but possibly becoming less evil and less aligned with the human cause.
