EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

And granted, say what you will about Disney’s adaptations of other books and classic stories. But atleast they specifically said back in the day it was ‘their’ unique adaptation of the story when they purchased film rights and don’t say, that’s the original, the original film, or outright replace or set out to replace the original stories or hold them hostage in essence as to not allow the original stories to be shown or celebrated the way they were..

Would also be very nice if after this plush, they start to offer a variant with the classic yellow & red shirt, with ‘Figment’ printed on the front of it ala the classic 80s-90s plush again. (And hey, maybe also, if they wanna “expand” a bit). Offer the other outfits he wears in the original ride soon. Including his classic artist’s beret & bow tie holding his jar & lid of rainbows. Do an artist Dreamfinder plush with his giant paintbrush with rainbow paint on the tip of it. (Future Festival of the Arts plush set? 🙏🏻👀) Then after, maybe start offering classic blue top hat & coat Dreamfinder too.
Anyway, to change the topic regarding Dreamfinder & Figment. Something more positive, Who else would genuinely love to see some new merch celebrating/themed to the OG Realm of Art scene for next year’s Festival of the Arts on merchandise? I know I would. Couple things I’d like to see possibly would be a Dreamfinder artist beret, blue tie, with an attached or included beard piece along with his classic white painter’s outfit. Same goes for Figment’s rainbow apron and a redone Figment head hat with his purple artists’ beret atop it and maybe an included white collar & purple tie. I’d personally love to see some plush toys of both Artist Dreamfinder and Artist Figment too, I (and I honestly think many others) would buy them! Maybe Figment could have light up color changing rainbow paint in his jar w the twinkling instrumental music playing from the scene where he’s by the rainbow pond, and Dreamfinder could have the light up paintbrush w changing colors and sing his verse of the song 🎶Mix red & gold from autumn flowers. Purple & blue from twilight hours. Green summer hills and rainbows play a part. *Hehe* A painter’s brush, a work of art!🎶 View attachment 891812

👍🏻👍🏻 Here’s hoping my purchase’ll go towards what we hope for both the continued better quality of future merch & the attraction itself :

Yeeeah no, def not on board with that, as much as I love the guy. A creative consultant or story man maybe, as he is a fan of the original ride. But Josh’s vocal qualities & personality, respectfully, doesn’t fit either of those 2 characters. It’d have to be folks cast who can really match Chuck McCann & Billy Barty’s vocal qualities & energy in the original ride near perfectly if a movie and/or show were to be made. Maybe he could make an appearance as an incidental character or a character they meet in their journey/on one of their journeys? I’d be on board with that

It’d also help to be fully sincere w more witty, light hearted humor ala classic Disney in any new work. Not too irreverent. The goal should be to capture the same spirit of the original attraction. Think like the type of writing & humor you saw in something like 1940’s Pinocchio, The Sword in the Stone, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. That’s the quality you really wanna aim for. Really try to match the quality of the Original ride basically.

You honestly ‘do not’ wanna match anything seen in the 02-current ride. That iteration should be totally barred from being used for any inspiration in future media featuring the characters going forward, knowing Tony’s thoughts/feelings on it, not to mention the majority of guests (myself included) for 23 years now. It’s ‘not’ good or up to snuff, period. It’s more a Honey, I Shrunk themed ride than an Imagination or Figment ride despite its misleading title & sign description outside. And that is a ‘huge’ problem as clearly evidenced in my earlier posts. Not just from a reception standpoint but also how and why the change was done. It was done under dubious circumstances.
The only exception I’d have is say, if you were working on something like talking about Dreamfinder & Figment’s return or wanted an Easter egg someplace explaining this for history’s sake. You could explain how Dr. Nigel Channing founded the Imagination Institute as part of the Honey I Shrunk the Audience show in the Magic Eye Theater in ‘94 but thought to expand his institute to Dreamfinder & Figment’s area in ‘99. Ultimately Figment showed him in ‘02 that no, the idea to do that was wrong and that imagination works best when set free (the original ride is imagination set free, entirely). So maybe a note you could put in a hypothetical DVC exclusive Figment’s Conceptual Cafe in the old Kodak VIP lounge (not where the current DVC lounge is), would be a note from Channing showing that he learned this. Acknowledges history while being tasteful with it, in a way that makes sense while not coming at the expense of the original ride & concept. Otherwise, like, you could use the props & figures that’d fit the context of a cafe/dining area in there if you’d like. But otherwise, that’s it. And if you wanna use some extra theming for say, the old Kodak camera & film shop that had extra merch in there, some of those current 15 second finale Figments would look nice displayed in there. Since basically that scene is most like the original ride. But yeah, that’s it.

Maybe have Gad play a new Figment and Goelz returns as the original, much older Figment who guides the new one?

Gonna be honest with you, that doesn’t really make much sense.. why would Dreamfinder need to create a new Figment when in the original ride, there’s only one? And by all accounts, Figment is forever ageless, think along the lines of Mickey. He never grows old.

I’d also prefer we don’t have a “new” Figment yet again… we’ve already seen what’s happened with them trying to make a new one twice now, in both Your Imagination & With Figment where they can’t decide whether he’s a discovery or Dr. Nigel Channing’s invention. Where even there, it’s never explained what his sparks of inspiration that create him are, let alone the role sparks of inspiration & ideas play in imagination/the creative process. Just go back to the original Figment created and guided by Dreamfinder and find someone who can best replicate Billy Barty’s performance of the character for new media, after the original ride is restored & enhanced tastefully.
