Dinosaur has seen better days

Hearing rumors of a meteor strike January 12th...
This is very sad I kind of hoped it might just cling on for when I go in Feb albeit it I didn't expect it to.
Will have to go on in lots in September, doesn't sound in great shape though which is sad, it seemed ok in May!

Let's predict: by the time Dinosaur closes...

1. How many carnotaurous animatronics will be functioning? Will any of them be operating at a level that wouldn't have gotten the ride shut down for poor show a decade ago?

2. Will any of the other dinos give up and stop moving? If so, which ones?

3. On a scale of 1 to 10 how grimey will Aladar look?

I say:

1. One will have fully given out, most likely the last one. The running one will be the only one in the acceptable zone, mainly due to being harder to see.

2. Styracosaurus and alioramus will freeze.

3. 7

Carno #1 has his head movement back and I daresay he looks good. If I hadn't watched a bunch of old videos I would say he's operating 100%.

Carno #2 seem to be in an intentional B mode? He's all the way forward the whole time (visible all lit up before the scene actually starts) but his head and mouth are moving when they're supposed to. Loses the cool running effect, but could be worse; it's cool being able to see the entire body and arguably scarier this way.

Carno #3 is still stuck with his body leaning down but I think he's raising his head a bit more. Or he might just been moved upwards altogether. He looks less like he's roaring at the floor, is what I'm getting at.

Off a POV from yesterday here's everything wrong with DINOSAUR right now:

  • Less fog than usual in the time travel room
  • Styracosaurus is static.
  • Ailoramus has limited movement and the skin around his neck looks like its falling off.
  • Raptors are in the dark
  • First Carnosaurus is frozen except for his mouth.
  • Nearly all the lights in the scene before the second carno are out.
  • Infamous incoming pterodactyl broken
  • Second Carnosaurus’s movement is very jerky and there’s a strobe light on him similar to the Yeti.
  • Final Carnosaurus is leaning out but there seems to be little to no movement in the figure anymore.
I think it's safe to say it's definitely entering the "let it rot" phase before closure.

yeah Disney World tends to do that :(. I got lucky and ended up at Disney World about a week or two before Splash Mountain closed and the same at Disneyland. It was crazy how big of a difference maintenance was between World and Land on rides that were closing. At World all the animatronics on Splash were in rough shape and at Land they were running amazingly.

To be fair, they've only barely maintained the ride to 'adequate' standards for the last 10-15 years. It hasn't been up to 'Disney' standards for a long while. Nor has JII seen ANY love other than an overpriced popcorn bucket. And let's face it, while both were once great fun, 90% of the time both of them have nearly a walk-on status and have aged horribly in quality.

And I know that someone on here will say something to the effect of 'wait times don't matter, they eat people and make other lines of more popular rides more manageable'. That's BS. Build attractions that people want to flock to and you'll still be able to manage those other popular legacy attractions wait times just as well.

It's nice to know not even other chunks of the Disney company buy into the claim that it's actually the normal, logical thing to just let your ride break down and visibly deteriorate in front of the hundreds of thousands of people who are still going to ride it.

Hey, they put a sweater if Figment for the holidays!

But yeah, definitely not a lot of love

I think that’s the Anaheim difference bubbling up again. They bask, but WDW breaks.

What's the impetus to change anything in the swamps? Too many people still show up, throw copious amounts of money at LL and the SSDD parks there, and crow about how great things are because "it has value to MEEEEEEE!!!1!!!". Oh, I forgot - ThEy ArE bUiLdInG ThInGs!!!

Indy at DL, woof... That ride has nearly the same down time as it does operating time. Coming out of COVID, it was only operating about 2 hours a day.

But yes, DL gets a lot more love and updates in comparison to WDW.

Love, updates, entertainment, events, the whole nine, although much of it goes beyond the scope of this thread.

- Styracosaurus is moving again
- First carno is moving properly
- Lots of smoke
- Not sure what "raptors in the dark" means; he's lit up with res both in the video and in real life right now
- Second carno looks good to me but I've always been bad at judging that one.

The sad thing is the final carno looks very bad, but still looks better than the worst I've seen him look. His mouth is moving, his head and neck are a bit, and he looks like he's looking in the direction of the rover; none of those are guarantees when you get on Dinosaur anymore.

Glad I shot it when it was in better shape.

😉

I loved your video, by the way. I'm glad people have the foresight to record this stuff.

Also, I was looking for a recording of the preshow for a project and somehow you still have the best footage despite it being so old.

(I do see your watermark; I'll record my own.)

Not that it's important on this side but, seems that the JP river adventure is also closing for a 10 month refurb starting in January and well before Dinosaur's closure in February...

I hear they're hiring a new guy around that time and he'll need some time to figure out the job:
