I wonder how much Universal pays you to post stuff like that.

@OrlandoRising

Come on Penguin - you have to admit that even the most pixe-dusted folks could see that was a puff PR piece.

I love WDW, but I'm not afraid to call out the things that seem wrong. They've hyped this parade up for two years and then they put out this product. Nine floats, no "tweeners", and the absolute minimum number of support cast you could have. Yet it's amazing that Tokyo Disneyland is able to put on a parade like DreamLights on tickets that are the equivalent of $65/day per person, while Disney World is charging what for a one-day ticket, $179 to visit MK with the experience being nowhere near as good as TDL?

Either they value-engineered this thing from the beginning or the bean counters did a number. The costuming is downright embarrassing and not even on the level of a professional Disney production. The company set the bar with parades like Main Street Electrical Parade, SpectroMagic, Fantillusion, and even to an extent Paint the Night (which I don't hate - sure it's short but it has a ton of kinetic energy in-between the floats and the costuming is great) - it's okay to call out when they can't even meet their own historical standards.

Hi I was actually there last night. The Article is correctly stating what seemed to be the general emotional state of everyone there or at least everyone on Main Street.

I can see how if you've never experienced MSEP or SpectroMagic (I won't throw Fantillusion or DreamLights in there since they've never been stateside and most folks don't even know they exist) how you thought this was amazing. But the reality is it's sub-par work based on the company's history. I watched a high-quality video of it today and even some of the float construction/overlay work was embarrassingly bad. There are so many spots on the Princess float where the "swooshes" of light don't even align, and why is the very strange glass box that houses Geppetto and Pinocchio not a single pane - it has a break right in the middle. It's these small but important things that make up the difference - but WDW for years has shown they do not care about "show" as much as they used to and it really is sad.

You're welcome to not like it.

You're not welcome to throw an ad hominem at someone with a differing take. And a conspiracy theory to boot.

I wasn't attacking a person so I don't see how that was an ad hominem at all - I said "I wonder how much that piece cost the Disney PR department" which was a legitimate question.

If you think that major corporations don't buy favorable coverage of events like this I don't know what to tell you - but look at those on the approved media list and the "perks" that Disney throws their way at media events, etc. They don't do that for nothing in return.

You impugned that a journalist was on the take.

I have seen the electrical parade loved it and based of my memories probably prefer it to this. I have not seen spectromagic in person. The rest is your valid opinion. Nether the less it is not fair to claim a trusted reporter was paid off because you didn’t like it.

Disney greasing the wheels of the establishment media and social media influencers to ensure it got favorable press?

Is that a thing?

I'm going to march over to that reporter and ask them for the copies of the itemized receipt they provided Disney for their bribe!

We all know you boarded that conspiracy train long ago.
It was Whimsy and it was magical and wonderful and the best ever.

See what I did there. It's called shilling.

Just ignore the gift cards pre-loaded with snack and merch credits in my front pocket.

What about people who have seen a previous nighttime parade and enjoy Starlight?

I think in this case it’s more - why would a smallish local paper s#*t all over a new Disney parade? It’s a sweet event that’s fun for families - tearing it apart like they’re critiquing an art house film would just be a strange approach there. I’m sure Disney, like every company with a PR department, does seek out good PR, but I think people are overthinking this one. Outside of the fandom world, a new MK parade just isn’t that deep to most people.
