How do you think it will affect Disney World?

Diagon Alley is much better than Hogsmeade (and I think that's the general consensus, at least as an area -- attraction lineup notwithstanding) but Hogsmeade came first and was the "game changer" for Universal.
I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best themed lands in Orlando and one of only two I’ve actually gotten lost in. (That might sound bad but it was a weirdly thrilling experience)

Universal’s prior biggest win (Hogsmeade) just reinforced a lot of bad ideas at Disney.
They really learned nothing from universal and Harry Potter. If they did, Galaxy's edge would be a much better land. As far as the ip reliance in the parks, that was always the direction things were heading. I don't like it, but I don't think Disney was swayed all that much by universal with it. Iger has always valued ip over creativity. If anything, I would say Disney took the wrong ideas from what universal has done.

Sorry but I disagree. If they hadn’t learned anything we might be looking at Star Wars shoved haphazardly into Tomorrowland for good.

Here is what I do not understand. Universal is truly building some amazing lands and rides and shows. It seems that Universal has the imagineering edge in parks and entertainment. How could Disney allow this to happen. Disney was the leader and Pioneers of attractions and experiences. With what Disney is planning to build vs what Universal has just completed is a night and day difference. I do plan to check out Universal in the fall this year to see what it is like. I am just hoping that Disney gets their act together before Universal pulls away with Disney trying to keep up.

That was never going to be a thing. They knew it needed to be a full land from the start. So I can't agree they learned it should be a whole land. I've been hard on Disney for a while now, but this I give them credit. Where they failed to learn from Potter, was Uni gave the fans what they wanted. Not so much with star wars. Disney gave us what they wanted, not what I'd say the majority of fans wanted.

Today's ticket buying was an adventure. Still technically waiting for email confirmations. But given that Disney doesn't have a new park to even sell... I'm still going to give Universal the edge, if today's adventure is the worst of it. I've been in worse Disney online queues (Tokyo Disneyland I'm looking at you!).

The domestic Disney e-queues are run quite well. It’s Tokyo that has always been the worst offender.

after watching Molly from Mammoth Club sob over and over during her preview video, I would say that DISNEY HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM.. this is one that Disney can't walk away from.. this time the ONUS IS ON DISNEY to fight back.. because there is a new kid in town.. and he has a VERY VERY MEAN PUNCH.. and all the training.. The mouse may very well get two black eyes and a bloody nose..

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really, really hope Epic causes massive problems for Disney. Because it's the only way the tight gits will spend some actual cash on the place. Nothing Disney has announced is anything close to enough of a response.

Not even villains land? (Assuming that still happens)

These influencers will cry at any new shiny thing in the theme park world especially from the Big 2. They over exaggerate stuff. Molly got emotional on a lot of things Disney had put out in the past as well, even on a fireworks show.

Well it depends. If you're a ride/attraction type then I super agree, but for me who appreciates entertainment more I would say the new nighttime parade can sway my attention from going to the new park.

Perhaps the images of opening day crowds pouring into Epic Universe will indeed resemble those we saw of the mass mourning of Kim Jong-Il's passing in North Korea, but overall I suspect Disney is going to be watching indicators other than the reactions of online influencers whose job is basically to exaggerate their reactions.

With all this talk of Disney having a problem, we have yet to see from where Epic's visitors are going to come. That is, will Universal's audience grow or will there be a redistribution of crowds among the Orlando parks. In the latter case, what matters to Disney is whether that is at their expense or mostly at the expense of the other Universal parks. Add to that all the current economic uncertainty and possible recession and I suspect Disney is not thinking they should be rushing massive construction projects any faster than they are.

As long as they learn the right lessons. In general, though, I wish we could get away from this narrative that Disney is too tight and needs to spend more money. They spend an absolute fortune on WDW, they just often spend it badly.
