Just watched the news and they were talking about HKDL. The board of directors for HKDL and the government were discussing about future expansion plans of the park. Since HKDL has already paid back the load to the government from before, they are reserving the extra money for new expansions (PIXAR-themed entertainment area). Apparently, they discussed how they could increase park capacity with new expansions.

The government also said that the Marvel expansion is a full-scaled themed land that will not only have one thrilling attraction (Spiderman ToT) but also supporting attrations just like WOF.

And they are much more open to discuss the 2nd park expansion although they have no plans now. The land is still available for Disney at this point of time.

Which is why I'm actually excited for whats to come to HKDL in the next 10 years. I can't even imagine it.

They also said earlier the Marvel expansion will not only host attractions but stores and restaurants too!

No. They went back to the legislative counsil to present the FY2024 results and updating future expanaions.

(but the meeting was held on 1/4. So....😂)

you're sure they were talking about the marvel expansion (set to be built on the former autopia site) and not the already opened rides like Nano Battle and the Iron Man: Experience? Realisticaly they could very well duplicate the Stark lab flat ride from DCA or add 1 or 2 flat rides inspired by Doctor Strange/Groot and open it by 2028. Tower of Terrors were all built rather quickly, same for Disney flat rides

The expansion pad they have is much bigger than a TOT needs.

They could easily fit TOT, a QSFB and gift shop and another flat ride in the space they have

It’s also good to know that the land is still functionally Disney’s. It was basically always that way. The penny’s bay planning design prohibited a lot of things from going there and the only things that could go there wouldn’t want to be right opposite Disney anyway so it was basically a ploy to make Disney pay more to buy the land back when they were ready

They said Marvel is an ALL NEW expansion. I supppse they refer it to the Autopia plot. Stark Flight Lab can fit well next to Iron Man but they may go with another Avenger.

And they still talk nothing about the reimaginated attraction. It may just be the PhilharMagic upgrade.

That’s positive. At least it is the government occupying the space currently as opposed to a third party operator right now who might throw opposition to being forced out.

I can’t imagine the modular quarantine facility has that long of a shelf life left sitting.

None of its very limited pool of potential clients would benefit from being built opposite Disney with the chance that Disney could absorb them at a later date

About the only things that can go there are an aquarium, botanical gardens or some other kind of low intensity recreational facility or government buildings. The government doesn’t want to be that far out of the city and the others like I said don’t benefit in any way from being next to Disney

Omg how many stores and restaurants does Tomorrowland needs? Already got 3 stores selling the same thing and 2 restaurants.
Merchandise is the park’s biggest driver. It’s overperforms the other parks on merchandise sales relative to attendance by an incredible margin, no other park comes even remotely close

It doesn’t surprise me their goal is more merchandise stores. The current layout of the south side of the park doesn’t leave much space for them anyway so putting more in Tomorrowland makes sense
