News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

Agree-at least you have a 'discount' haha at your local Disney store, at mine it's a 99 cent reusable tote bag. I had the same mindset as you, I wasn't going to buy an additional item just to get the items I just bought home. Ended up carrying my stuff around like a shoplifter for a while...

    Vacation Planning-1997 Style

It does seem like there was a lot less planning back then. Nothing to worry about before leaving, you just got there and had fun. And basically every guest was in the same boat-you either waited in line for an attraction, or didn't, and that was that. No need to plan every detail of every day...

    Vacation Planning-1997 Style

I got my old VCR working and popped in a 1997 Vacation Planning videotape. (1997 was the 25th anniversary -aka Pepto Bismol Castle time-I know lots of us were there :) Thought some of you long-time visitors would like a walk down memory lane. Missing from the video was any mention of Fast...

    Mousekeeping Opt Out

I hear you on not having the nuisance of the housekeeper coming in when you are napping, just don't forget you're going to have Security Sam coming in anyway! ;) Have a great stay-love POR!

Just Back and a few complaints

Ewwww-I never thought of it before (odd because I'm slightly germophobic) but it is gross checking all the bags with the same gloves. The casino near my house does bag check with a wand/stick type thing...though that probably isn't much better. I agree the x-ray type thing seems like a...

    Mickey's Studio Tour

Wow--I never knew this idea was in the works...even if it was eventually trashed. Too bad. Looking at the article you attached 'Mickey's Studio Tour' seems like it would have fit perfectly in Hollywood Studios. 'Honoring' Mickey with a ride through his career would have been a nice...

    It's the little things....

Definitely miss ordering the old vacation vhs/dvds... Also...going to Borders or Barnes and Noble (as in real brick and mortar stores) to pick up the latest Frommer's guide to Disney World. (Back when a book was your only choice for planning!)

how will IP attractions hold up

Along these lines, I always wondered why Disney never built a Mary Poppins attraction. I think a lot in that movie would translate to a creative, fun ride (umbrella ride vehicles!) Wonder too if Disney built it today if it would be a crowd pleaser?

how will IP attractions hold up

I agree. A big difference from now and 'yesteryear' is related to our world in general. The original (now nostalgic) rides are from stories we read to kids. Kids read a lot back then. When the movies came out (Peter Pan in 1953), it was long before the time that 873 channels on tv were...

Has Disney ever listened to fan/guest feedback regarding a proposed attraction change or closing and actually changed its mind?

I haven't been asked to do one of those Disney surveys in years. What are some of the usual questions they ask? Do they really ask guests about their opinions/experience? or is it more about data gathering?

Grading Walt Disney World Throughout the Decades

Right! After all, there are plenty of 'Yay! Rah Rah,' Disney cheerleading sites out there. I like this forum, seems to be filled with a lot of articulate folks, who know a lot about Disney and simply enjoy a good discussion. I think you can continue to visit Disney, enjoy it, still think it's in...

Grading Walt Disney World Throughout the Decades

Just out of curiosity I looked up the price of a one day admission ticket in 1989 (the first year I visited.) It was $29.00 and gas was $1.02 a gallon. I live in New England and paid $2.56/gallon for gas yesterday. Just interesting. Sure do, saw them in Foxboro, MA for about that much in the...

How Long Before We Start Seeing Disney Charge Infants With Tattoos?

Not long at all. Watch for an article soon, 'Disney announces tiered Stroller Parking prices.';)

    Coffee at the resorts?

What is it with Orlando water? Absolute yuck...and showering with it, double yuck. The water leaves my hair feeling and looking like straw. I bring my same shampoo from home, but it barely lathers in Orlando water. And conditioner seems not to 'take'. Fortunately my hair is long enough for a...

Grading Walt Disney World Throughout the Decades

Really interesting and good point! I had totally forgotten about flying in the pre-9-11 days. I remember one half full flight that I just moved to an empty row and sprawled out across 3 seats. (Didn't get thrown off flight, roughed up or end up on social media for doing so either ;-) ---the...
