Here is the weekly report from the Florida DOH. The number of new deaths reported from the report last week to this report is 2,447.

That's a huge drop in vaccinations. Let's hope this is all just holiday related and the entire week is just off pace.

That 13.5% positivity isn't giving lots of hope in the case numbers being comprehensive. Combined with testing being low all week. It feels like it was just a week off of testing and vaccination and not necessarily a real down turn. I guess we'll find out next Friday if it's mirage or real.

I wonder when FDA will approval COVID-19 vaccines for 5-11 kids as 11-12+ kids soon?

Pfizer plans to apply for EUA for 5-11 year olds in the next few weeks. Nobody knows how long the FDA will take to review but it could be authorized by mid-October if they follow the adult and 12-15 authorizations. Pfizer‘s partner BioNTech has said publicly they are currently preparing to role out the child sized doses so I’d say it’s coming sooner than later but who really knows.

While I don't deny that trolls and fake accounts exist, I think new posters should be given the benefit of the doubt unless there is clear evidence that they are simply causing trouble. Why assume she's being insincere or attempt to silence her just because you don't like what she's saying?

This is a Disney message board, not a Coronavirus message board. I'm not talking about just this one poster.

There is one like them every day. I'm not advocating silencing legitimate posters, but this topic particularly is not representative of the community. It's meant to protect the *rare* ones who are legitimately sincere. They'll have a much better welcome, integrating first elsewhere on this board.

Has anyone in the last year and a half started with their first post on this topic and became subsequently a legitimate community member elsewhere? I doubt it.

I agree, the approach from many here might satisfy some internal need of theirs to lash out, but it's accomplishing nothing except causing people to dig in against it.

Anybody got any info on the Newsweek article that states Congress and all of their staff is also exempt?

Just trying to figure out if it’s true or not.

Fair enough. I steered clear of the politics forum despite being a member for a decade and creeping for a few years before that. Definitely my perception skews that way. Gone are the days of introducing oneself slowly and not leading with telling people you wouldn’t want to meet them in real life.

I just would say it’s about protecting them as much as this discussion. Would you have stuck around if the first thing was to be ganged up on?

I think in the interest of fairness everyone should be allowed to post and share their opinions here. That includes people who are sincere as well as those who may not be.

But how the community chooses to react to a given opinion is part of the process as well. No one should post something expecting their viewpoint to somehow be immune from criticism. And feelings shouldn’t be hurt if that happens either.

Everyone agreeing on everything here all the time might lead to initial feelings of euphoria, but an echo chamber ultimately doesn’t help anyone. So let those who disagree make their comments known and let the chips fall where they may.

I think the ongoing discussion here can be frustrating but I see it as ultimately beneficial.

Conversation is the first step toward understanding. It may not always be pleasant but it’s undeniably better than the alternative.

Likewise fair enough. It's probably not the best way to introduce yourself, especially if you adopt a combative stance. In retrospect, I'm glad the rules prevented me from launching straight into the Politics forum, where civility was always in short supply.

Those choosing to make their debut in this thread would do well to remember that their opening gambit may leave a lasting impression.

The reason I called the poster a troll is that they kept asking questions, but didn't respond to people's answers or their questions back to the poster. It's called a discussion board for a reason.
The poster would give vague details. Just enough to get a response, but not enough to be meaningful in any way.

Also their first post was a criticism of the posters on the thread and then they proceeded to want to seemingly engage with them, but not in a meaningful way.

When accused, instead of responding with the details that were missing, responding to the questions they were asked, basically defending themselves, they decided to leave....

I definitely see what you're saying. I suppose I tend to draw a distinction between intentional trolling (which, thankfully, doesn't happen too much here) and behaviour that comes across as trolling even though the poster is sincere. It's not always easy or possible to distinguish the one from the other, but I do think the T-word gets thrown around a little too often on these boards when all we really mean is that we don't like someone's views or posting style.

Congress is the legislative branch and the courts are the Judicial branch of government. The president can only make executive orders for the executive branch that he heads. Separation of powers.

That being said, a lot of laws that are passed have an exemption in them so that they don't apply to congress....

The staff work for the congressman so not part of the executive branch either. Think of the President as the CEO for the executive branch of the Federal Government. He can mandate vaccines for all the employees in all of the departments he has control over (think of all the departments that covers….it’s a ton of people). He cannot mandate vaccines for workers not under his control. There is no exemption for Congress or exemption for the USPS since neither are under his control.

I explained the USPS thing earlier, but here goes again. The Postal Service was made an independent entity outside of the domain of the Federal government. There is still a great deal of oversight from the government but they aren’t considered Federal employees that the President controls. Because of this they are not covered under the mandate to vaccinate Federal employees. However, they are covered by OSHA so they will be under the same rule revolving around weekly testing or vaccination. So there is no conspiracy or exceptions being made. Just a lot of hype.

I am with you on this. I give people the benefit of the doubt. Her post could have been sincere so I was willing to respond and I said nothing that was rude or disrespectful. Her initial post was complaining about how rude people were in their postings here and then 2 pages later she liked the post of a guy who added zero to the discussion and just attacked people here and insulted them. That’s when I was out. You can’t complain about rude behavior and then like other rude behavior. That’s insincere to me.

It’s not really an exemption. The President cannot mandate vaccines for employees not under his chain of command. It would be like if the head of the Navy mandated vaccines for all military personnel who roll up under him and then saying why is there an exemption for Army Rangers or Air force pilots.

As far as third parties, yes, any contractor who does work for Department of Defense or the Justice Department or Homeland Security or any other department that rolls up under the executive branch is included. Any who work for a department outside of the executive branch are not.
