Pharmacist advised us if one gets Moderna then get the Moderna booster. It is all on the person's account when the pharmacist looks up the info after one showing their CDC card. I like the fact that the pharmacist to ensure that the 15 min observation time is followed post vaccine shot that the pharmacist returns your CDC card after the 15 min egg timer goes off.

There are studies about mixing too. For now they won't mix, but who knows for the future - if we all need it too

Same here. It’s disheartening the planning , the time spent, all for cancellations. But that’s life in these times. Nothing anyone can do about it. Add that most flights are being moved to very strange time or cancelled just makes it crazier. This morning 2 clients canceled trips because of Florida’s situation, another group of 5 families traveling together had their flight from 8 am changed to 7 at night. It’s crazy.

I've had three plane changes so far for my December trip. One change involved two, two hour phone calls to get it changed to a reasonable time change and for the site to accurately show the correct change. And...it's still way out right now.

so 50% is the same as the Pfizer regular?

Moderna dosage is 100mcg per regular shot ( not booster). 50mcg for booster shot.

Pfizer is 30mcg per shot.

So the Moderna vaccine delivers more in each shot by weight ( not sure the respective weight of the lipid “package”)

Studies have shown a drop in effectiveness in the Pfizer vaccine each month against original wild virus of 3% , while Moderna drops 1%. This monthly dropping was reported by the respective company researcher’s analysis of their initial 6 months of data from their phase 3 studies. This does not take into account for Delta which was not common during the first six months of the trials.

I've had three plane changes so far for my December trip. One change involved two, two hour phone calls to get it changed to a reasonable time change and for the site to accurately show the correct change. And...it's still way out right now.

My flights changed 3 times for our recent August trip. Nothing major, just small time changes and the flight number changed. The only thing that was screwed up is Disney cancelled my magic express return bus because they had inaccurate flight information as the flight number I gave them no longer existed. Why they didn’t call me or e-mail me is beyond my ability to understand but when we didn’t get the paperwork the night before checkout on a pickup time we called and the woman on the phone told us our reservation had been cancelled due to lack of accurate flight info. We still got a ride to the airport but if you want to avoid a 30 min phone call the day before checkout for anyone going to Disney and using magic express make sure you update your flight number if it changes.

We flew SW and did early bird checkin to guarantee we could sit together but another problem we had in the past with American was flights changing and our seats not being together anymore. One trip when I was traveling with 4 kids between 3 and 6 they canceled our flight and merged us into another one and we all got assigned middle seats throughout the plane. It took about an hour on the phone complaining before they fixed it but I’m assuming some other poor people got bumped from seats together and scattered. The airlines don’t care about customer service since you are a captive audience so there is never a consideration for others.

Technically you could get a Moderna or JnJ right now. Just don’t go to the same location you got the first shots and they won’t know. The only risk with that is it will show as a new first shot so if in the future employers or theme parks or airlines or bars require proof of vaccination including the booster your card won’t reflect that you had the full series. I wouldn’t do it for that reason since we have no idea what the future will hold. I thought we’d get enough people vaccinated and this would be a thing of the past by this past Summer but Delta killed that hope who knows what the future brings. I’d like to believe that this time next year we will be past the primary crisis here in the US but who knows. The longer this lasts the more likely it is that more and more places and jobs will require vaccination.

Flying always sucked….flying in the era of masks was was even more “joyful”. At least we didn’t have anyone fighting a flight attendant on our flight. You know it’s bad when the airlines stop selling alcohol. They wouldn’t give up that profit stream unless really necessary.

No, unblinded means it finds out if you got the real deal or placebo. I only know people who did Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AZ-Oxford and J&J. But so far all followed an observer blind placebo controlled set up. Meaning only those administering the shot will verify what you got. Those getting the shot do not know what they are getting - placebo or real deal. Also those looking at the data do not know. They never mix and match. As in I didn't get 1 dose placebo and 1 real thing.

My understanding is they’re not doing real vs placebo studies for new COVID vaccines anymore. It would be unethical to give someone the placebo when there is an EUA and approved viable alternative. They’re using other techniques to judge instead. It sounds like in this study, they gave everyone the vaccine, but not all at the same time. Meaning some got a placebo at the start, but eventually got the real vaccine and others got the vaccine immediately. Everyone got it sometime in the 6 month timespan is how it sounds. Everyone is blind to when. This has to be more complicated to analyze then.

This also means for proof of vaccination, assuming this vaccine is accepted at all, it has to assume it was received at the end of the 6 months.

The study will have to analyze the differences between people with different durations and vs the public. Sounds much harder.

Pfizer and Moderna are both working on mRNA based flu shots and both companies are looking into the possibility of creating a combined covid and flu shot if the covid shot becomes an annual thing. Then it’s just one shot a year covering both flu and covid.

The mRNA flu shots could be a game changer as the traditional flu shots need to be manufactured months earlier due to the use of chicken eggs so if they can do it with mRNA they can wait until much later into the Summer to determine which flu strain will be dominant and the shot should be a lot more effective and accurate.

We are at least partially to blame as consumers. Most people book a flight solely based on price and so the airlines cram as many people in as possible to maximize profit and keep prices as low as they can. If consumers showed they would be willing to pay a little more for better service maybe the airlines could/would charge more but offer better service. The explosion of the low cost carriers shows that most people really don’t care. I flew Spirit one time in my life and I will never make that mistake again. You are literally buying a ticket with the promise of the lowest price and zero service. Most people don’t seem to care, they just want to save a few bucks.

Unless this was a spinoff study, that's not how the ones who enrolled last year work.

Let's be blunt here. When I enrolled over a year ago I knew full well that I may or may not be vaccinated for a full 2 years. They changed it after EAU for their vaccine. Pfizer-BioNTech decided this was the most ethical manner to do it. They waited for data and now use us for long term efficacy and side effect recording. If trials were going during a time when one was not eligible for vaccination, and this one was for sure, then no one was required to give someone anything. Actually they still aren't but the decision was made to be nice and vaccinate. These are all risks one takes when enrolling.

Edit: btw glad to see a good efficacy for this one as well. Globally, unlike the mRNA that require intense freezers, this could make a huge difference in numbers.

You can get a new card for each shot and that will suffice. Anecdotally a friend shared this status of one of their friends chronicling their journey. Had J&J and had a severe case after. They joined a study and now have one of the mRNA vaccines. They have two cards. Others who forgot may as well. They can combine or redo as needed with just checking status with previous places. You can also just have a digital print out of all recorded from your doctor. They do that for kids often who move and get vaccines from multiple sources. Having 2 or 3 care isn't bad.

I believe you can get both at same time. I also got the shingles shot in March and went for the Covid shot and they said I had to wait 2 weeks I believe. So they rescheduled me for the covid shot. Quick search online from Penn State says it’s fine for flu and booster.
