I’m sorry, but that’s just way too black and white for me. Masks and social distancing do work to reduce spread. This is proven. Vaccines are more effective, but that doesn’t mean the other strategies have no impact.

Yes and no.

Masks and social distancing work when people actually follow the rules.

We now have two very distinct groups.

One group that is very likely to follow the rules and unlikely to have the virus.

The other group is unlikely to follow and rules and likely to have the virus.

My area is over 80% vaccinated why should we have to mask and social distance?

Areas that are less than 50% vaccinated could care less what you tell them.

Masking and social distancing will not slow the spread because the areas with low vaccination rates will not mandate it.

Yes, it is possible. that’s why people like me, with at risk kids who dont have access to a vaccine, still mask and social distance as possible even though we are vaccinated.

I just had a realization that I think will be very controversial.

Mainly because it’s not supported by science but I’ve been noticing a pattern.

I have been noticing these stories that keep popping up, that when vaccinated people are tested randomly in large samples - for example on that navy ship - we are getting a very unusual breakthrough rate.

Is it at all possible that us vaccinated folks are all catching the virus and have no idea?

If we have no symptoms and would only test positive for a day or two, how would we ever know without large scale random testing?

Can someone who understands this better than I fill me in on if this is a possibility ?

Sadly that is a task we cannot perform so we will get positives after vaccination. More testing more positives unless spread is truly declining. This is truly a numbers game where the more vacc'ed people the less positives in both the vaccinated and the heathens

... but the big difference is that getting seriously ill from covid is now pretty much a choice instead of a random occurrence. Anyone who wants to have almost perfect protection from the virus can have it for free in 2 to 6 weeks.

Been the problem all along. If we could test everyone for a week we could stop this in it's tracks by isolating the positives and re testing the negatives a few days later. Sadly that is a task we cannot perform so we will get positives after vaccination. More testing more positives unless spread is truly declining. And here in FL, testing becomes increasingly more difficult (much like reporting of the #’s). The Disney/Maingate site has been closed for several weeks now, and I’ve just discovered that the only free public testing remaining in Osceola County occurs at the FOH office, only on MONDAYS.

I am trying to listen and learn, I’m slow on the uptake.

The areas that can mandate such a thing are the most vaccinated areas of the country.

The areas with the lowest vaccination rates will not return to restrictions.

Why is there so much focus on mitigation’s that will not work in the areas they are needed most?

Everyone who wants to mask and social distance of course should be able to.

Expecting people to mask and social distance in the highest vaccinated areas of the country just because things are out of control elsewhere makes zero sense to me.

Everyone saw the study from yesterday, that 24 hours after infection Delta generates viral loads 1000x the original A/B strains out of Wuhan? This is what's driving breakthrough infections among vaccinated, including some on the more serious side of mild, like @Disney Experience. And reports of clusters, like the one in Singapore, being started by vaccinated people. While vaccinated people have lower viral loads, even a 99% less viral load still means they could be carrying a load 10x the thing that started all of this. That's what happens when you go from garden hose to fire hose.

We should expect guidance to change because the virus changed, and I doubt LA will be the only mask mandate that gets reinstated (although most places will likely go with "recommended.") If your vaccinated, you're still more likely than not going to be fine. But the bits about vaccinated people playing no role in transmission? I expect that will be re-evaluated. Still much, much less of a role, especially in small groups of vaccinated people. But long exposures, in crowded areas.

I’m in a highly vaccinated area. I don’t feel it’s a burden to continue to mask until all have an opportunity to be vaccinated. As previously shared, vaccinated doesn’t equal 100% assurance of not transmitting the virus. Masking for a few more months until the kids had an opportunity to be vaccinated would have hurt no one.

Wow this guy set up a go fund me because he was an idiot and didn’t get vaccinated?

I’m sure our tax dollars will be paying his medical bills.

Meanwhile people who don’t have access to the vaccine that this moron had free and easy access to are dying around the world.

Great so now that we admit that masks and social distancing are not coming back how do we focus our energy on something that could actually help like a vaccine passport?

I’m totally in favor of a vaccine passport. But I doubt it’ll ever be done on a federal level. And given that there are already states that have made them illegal, I don’t see how that becomes nationwide protocol.

The more important number is the survival rate, vaccinated people are getting the delta variant but very few are getting serious cases and even fewer are dying.

It stinks it’s not as good against the delta as the others but 64% is still pretty good.

I was told that the CDC and Fauci where the gold standard of science.

Last I checked they said the vaccinated do not need to wear masks.
